The rest of the ride to school was silent, Luke was concentrating on the road, while I was looking out the window. I couldn't afford to fail this project, but I could already feel my hope slipping away once we parked in front of the locked school gates.
"We're too late." I whispered, looking through the gates.
"No, we aren't. Come on." He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the left of the gate. It looked like it was fine, until the metal was pushed and made a small entry hole big enough for us to slip through.
"How-"
"When I skip school and slip back in." He clarified, fixing the wire again so it looked okay.
"What time capacity does Darcie have if she was healthy when I left her?" He asked me, leading me again to another slip-in spot, a teacher's window.
"Six hours, if we're lucky." I counted on my watch, if Darcie was left at school then she should have a few hours left!
"She has four hours left." I said, my voice cracked, Luke boosted me up the window, and I ended up landing on my stomach, mumbling a few profanities under my breath.
"Should have warned you about that, sorry." He apologized slipping in after me, holding out his hand for me to take. I saw it as a surrender, and I knew I couldn't take it. I did not forgive him and he was not someone I should have trusted with Darcie. I stood up myself, heading towards the door.
"Do you remember where you left Darcie?" I asked irritated, wondering what bathroom stall or classroom my baby is suffering in right now.
"Yeah, about that-" He stuttered, scratching the back of his head and walking away from me.
"Spit it out, Hemmings." I said eagerly, angry that this blonde boy forgot my baby at school when I trusted him.
"I left her in the locker hall." He said nervously at me not meeting my eyes.
"Why did you just leave her in a hallway where people would step on her? You're honestly so stupid and idiotic! I can't believe you'd do that!" I ranted on, rushing towards the junior hallways hoping my baby wasn't trampled on and still alive.
I scouted the area not finding my baby, and all I could hear was the sound of Luke's squeaky vans and something else..
It was almost like a faint cry, very familiar. What was it? I followed the sound and ended up in front of a group of lockers when the sound became clearer and I knew what it was.
"YOU LOCKED DARCIE IN A CLOSET YOU FUCKING PRICK WHEN I GET HER OUT I AM GOING TO MURDER YOU!" I yelled at Luke, his head was lowered to the ground as he shook his head and was mumbling incoherent words.
"Speak up!" I exclaimed at him wanting to just slap his precious face again.
"I'm sorry, Shan. I was in a situation and it was on accident! I tired everything." He said quickly, leaning onto the other side of the hallway and sinking to the floor.
"You didn't try to call the office? You didn't try asking someone for help? How about hunt out the owner of this fucking locker?" My tone was angry and the excessive want to pull my hair and Luke's out was on a great level.
"I didn't think of those ideas.." He mumbled again, resting his head on his palms.
I sighed knowing fighting won't fix anything and tried thinking of some ways to open the locker. I crossed out finding the owner or asking the office on the list considering we were at school after hours already, I thought of wrenches and maybe even banging Luke's head on the locker hoping that the lock would undo itself..
