I thought I fixed things with Jason that night at the hospital. I thought he heard every word I told him... it turns out, he didn't.
Right after he woke up, he still acted as if we were still at odds.
He wouldn't talk to me anymore. He avoids me even more ever since he had to quit the team and attend detention every Saturday, just to graduate high school. His scholarships went down the drain and it made Uncle Sam get mad at him. I knew it wasn't only me that contributed to his sourness these past few days but I just wished I could help him through this.
He helped through my difficult times, I just want to return the favor.
Jason and I have been drifting apart so much... it frustrates and concerns me that I think I won't be able to fix this anymore.
I continued to skip school and spend my days with Zack, trying to distract myself from my struggling relationship with Jason...
Now, it's been weeks since his accident and I'm still trying to figure stuff out.
It's another Saturday in Angel Grove.
Jason's going to his Saturday detention class and I'm with Zack.
We just had lunch and we were laying down on the grass, being the lazy asses we are.
"I wonder if that guy's coming back..." He muttered under his breath.
I look at him, "Who?"
By the look on his face, I wasn't meant to hear that.
"Um... there's this black kid going around the mines a lot recently. I usually see him after you leave. It's interesting because he usually does these... examinations of the place. Almost like he's on some kind scientific break through."
Odd.
Yes, odd was the first thing that came into my mind the moment Zack explained himself. That and a whole bunch of other things that literally translates to what the fuck.
"You watch some black nerd take note of how many trees there are in this place?—For fun?" I put the tense on the last part.
He laughed, "It's not like that. I find it amusing because he looks so hopeful that he'll find something, which I highly doubt. All he's gonna find under the dirt is more dirt and more dirt and more dirt—maybe a few bugs—but mostly dirt. I just wanna see his face when he realizes that."
"Well, that's mean."
"What's so mean about waiting for someone to find out the sad truth?"
"Why don't you go over to him and talk to him? You know, like what you did with me..." I side-smiled.
His eyes light up at the memory, "Uh... I don't really feel like making new friends for now."
"Oh, really then. What if it were a teenage girl? Are you sure you don't wanna make new friends?" I cock a brow, testing him.
He snorted and turned his body to me, "Funny you should bring that up. I've actually been seeing this Hispanic chick over at the cliffs... she has these yoga or meditation sessions with headphones on. Then there's this other girl who comes here at night to take a dive at the lake. Gotta admit... they're not bad to look at.—"
