The following day came quickly and before I had chance to notice I was stood at the school gates once more. I took in a deepr breath and carried on through. I knew I couldn't just go up to Chlo and her friends and be all best buddies with them, because I wasn't, I was friends with Chlo on Facebook and that was the extent of the relationship.
"Jacob! That's right isn't it?!" A girl called, I looked to see who Jacob and the girl were to find it was Xahria, and that she was talking to me.
"Erm... Jason actually, aha..." I lauughed awkwardly
"I was close!" She smiled brightly as she began to walk beside me. "So, where are you first period?"
I dug out my timetable from my pocket and un-scrunched it "Erm...Maths with Mr Wesley, aha."
"Oh, he only takes top set, I think Chlo is in top set though, we can go and find her to see if she'll show you where to go!" Xahria beamed at me, and I smiled back just because she mentioned Chlo's name. I followed her through the school for about 5 minutes, through a corridor, up a flight of stairs, down another and out through a door and sure enough there stood Chlo. Not just Chlo though, the entire gang. It all seemed like a movie, a movie where the mysterious people gave the protagonist strange glances in slow-motion.
"Hi, Chlo, do you have Mr Wesley? It's just that Jack-Jason has him next and doesn't know where to go I don't think!" Xahria smiled up at her.
"Oh, yeah, I do. Hang around here with us and I'll take you down when the bell goes Jason." and just like that, it was like art again the day before, I was temporarily involved. "Everyone, this is Jason, Jason this is everyone."
I looked around and I saw them all, the emo who looked like Xahria in the face was Xavier, he was throwing me a cautious look, by his side stood Dominc who was familiar with me by now and so just accepted my being there. Beside him stood the glamorous, blonde-haired Maia, her hair blew in the almost non-existent wind which just highlighted her authority, and other than Chlo and Xahria that was it. No Luke.
"Hey guys!" Spoke too soon. Here he came walking out of the door I had just walked through, the curly-haired quiffed, big-rimmed bespectacled, Chlo loving Luke Hayes. In the living flesh, How fortunate.
"Oh, hey hun!" Chlo's voice completely changed - she sounded dumb, but not for long because within a second their lips had connected and I was forced to avert my eyes.
"Get a room." Xavier mumbled shooting them both an evil stare, they noticed and stopped attmepting to swallow eachother. Instantly I felt more comfortable and when I looked up I noticed Maia staring at me in an intrigued fashion.
"So, Jason, I'm Maia." She smiled at me and ran a hand through her hair. "It's nice to meet you."
"Oh, erm, yeah, nice to meet you too." I laughed nervously and put on a smile. Then Luke noticed me, he looked me up and down and instantly I knew it clicked in his head - I was a regect. I didn't belong with them, by all laws of physics I should be sat all by myself reading or pretending to text someone on my phone, but I shouldn't be with them.
"I'm Luke." He said with a neutral expression.
"Xavier." Xavier mumbled with an expression that said I really don't care if you know my name just don't bother to talk to me. I smiled and nodded.
"Well... erm... It's nice to meet you all." I said as awkwardly as ever. I looked at them all, with their different expressions, their different reactions. Chlo smiled as if we really were close life long friends and she had just inroduced me into a really good TV series, Luke looked a bit sceptic he smiled but I didn't know how sincere it was, Xavier had no emotion he just stared at me judgingly, yet I knew he wasn't judging me I was just new. Then there was Xahria beaming as always, she looked as though she was still proud for (sort of) remembering my name, Dominic was neutral, we had already met so I wasn't expecting anything else. However, the reaction that surprised me the most was Maia's, I don't know, I suppose thinking she was nicknamed The Queen gave me a bad idea of what she'd be like, but she was smiling at me and I could tell if you wiped away the make-up she would be an average, ordinary, down to Earth girl.
"Jason we should go to maths, we only have a couple of minutes before the bell." Chlo kissed Luke's cheek and walked towards me. "Bye everyone!"
"Erm, yeah, cya around." I waved awkwardly and the farewells were all reciprocated. Chlo and I walked back into the building.
"So what do you think of everyone?" She aske, smiling.
"Erm.. They all seem lovely, bit scared of erm... Xavier, mind you." I joked weakly.
"Oh, yeah, he can be quite intimidating, but anyway, Maia seemed to like you. Which basically means you're more or less in The Gang." She told me.
"Really? She barely knows me, she was just being polite." I laughed. "Let's be honest, I'm nnot remotely attractive and erm, well, I don't have a very interesting personality either. I, well, I am just erm... Jason Brewer, I am boring. She wouldn't gain anything from being friends with me. Neither would you."
"True, true, I guess I'm just being polite." She joked. "Listen, Jason, you are a good looking lad, sure, you could do with a haircut and new glasses, but you are attractive. You're very socially awkward but you will be if you keep putting yourself down like that. Just take this opportunity, not many people are even as close as you are to be in a ready-made friend group, a popular one at that, on their second day of school."
"Only because the, erm, member, of said group, who was told to show me around happened to be, well, erm... you." It sounded really cute in my head but came out as an awkward babble. She took it how it was meant though.
"Hhhhmmm... Maybe, or maybe not. I'll take credit for the beautiful friendships that are about to come either way." She laughed. It was meant as a joke but it made me feel really happy, Chlo honestly thought I would be accepted, she thought they would llike me and that we'd all be friends. That's all I really wanted and that is exactly what I was told.
"Well, we're here." Chlo said as we reached the maths classroom, after that the two of us stood there in silence waiting for the bell to go off.
