One more day has come to an end! – I think, admiring the incredible view of New York from my huge office at Carter Corporation. I'm sitting on my fancy comfortable chair trying to figure out something to improve my mood after the stressful hard work week. It is late on a Friday evening, probably all my employees are already gone enjoying their weekend somewhere. The quiet space gives me the sensation of loneliness. By now I'm used to be alone with my thoughts till late. I've been focused on success, and accomplish my goals, doing everything in my power to improve living conditions in the third world. Being lonely is the price I have to pay for my choices. To become a powerful businessman. I'm not complaining, I enjoy my life, my work, though sometimes I feel that everything I've been accomplished was empty without someone to share with.
Carter stops thinking about that shit, it's not going to lead you anywhere.
I pick my phone and dial to Stewart, my bodyguard. - "Yes, Sir."
"Stewart I'll be leaving in 10 minutes, please pick me up in front of the building. We are heading to the Salon the Ning."
"Ok, sir."
"Thanks" – I said hanging up and sliding my phone back in my pocket. Before leaving I decided to check out if Mark, my Communication Head is still here. Mark is a good friend, we share the same passion, our work, and probably he would be here working as hard as ever. Maybe he wouldn't blame to join me at the pub. I turned off my computer and left my office closing the door behind me. As I make my way to the elevator I look at my secretary empty desk and remember that I had forgotten to ask her to talk to Cassidy.
"I'm going to kill Mark!"
While making a mental note to send Pame a message Monday morning instructing her to talk to Cassidy, I reached the elevator and press its button. Almost instantly the elevator opens its door. I step in and press the 42nd-floor button to check out on Mark and ask him for a drink. In a bit, the elevator opens the door in an empty dark floor. I just can see a dim light from a computer screen. I step outside from the elevator to see who is still there working at this time. I know I push my employees and I appreciate hard workers though. I didn't expect them working at this time on Fridays. After all, I believe that good employees have to balance their professional and personal life to work as happy as possible. Indeed, work is just a means to an end. I'm intrigued. As quietly as possible, I walk through the foyer to take a look at the golden employee. There she is, a tiny beautiful brunet. She is sitting on her legs in front of her computer chuckling to her screen. She is adorable with that beautiful shining hair cascading on her shoulder and that lips curling into a smile. She seems to enjoy her work, and I feel pleased. I like that my employees have a good time working. I'm hypnotized by the girl. I can't take my eyes off of her. Suddenly, I hear her phone ringing. I flinch in the corner of the foyer because I don't want her noticing me spying on her. She fumbles to pick her phone and drops it on the floor, cursing to herself. I can't help myself but smile. She is funny and beautiful, and some unbelievable energy emanates from her, making me keep waiting to listen to her conversation.
"Hey, Matt what's up?"
Matt? Who would be that Matt? Her boyfriend?
"No. I'm still at the office... Yeah, I'm still here because you did me the favor to finish this draft at the end of the day. I told you to send it to me at 3 pm. Your e-mail was sent at 6 PM Matt." – She says in a mocking tone.
Well, It's a co-worker after all. I feel stunned at how relieved I'm feeling that Matt isn't her boyfriend.
"Stop mocking me, Matt. I'm not a slug. It's your fault that you can't keep your mouth shut and keeps distracting me all day long about your weekend plans." – She says laughing.
