Chapter 24 - The Threat

I'm sorry for taking so long to publish this chapter. I keep it shorter than planned so I could release it sooner. I know you guys have been eager for this new one. I struggled a little to settle some things to the story, but I think it's ok now. So enjoy your reading.

"Well, that's a first!" - I said mockingly, with a grin forming on my lips as I answered the phone. Jenny will probably be pissed.

"Hello to you too Ryan." - Jenny answers annoyed as I expected on the other side of the line. - "What do I owe to this illustrious call?" - I can't help but keep mocking her. She hardly calls me. Usually, I'm the brother who keeps calling and pleading for some time together.

"Are you going to keep mocking me or can we talk as two grown people? Are you five or what?"

Not being able to refrain myself from laughing at her pissed tone I said. - "Aw, she's all goaded." - I keep teasing her, after all that's the big brother for.

"Come on Ry. You're being a jerk!"

"Language little sister, language!" - I said sighing. As much as I like to tease my little sister, she may be needing to talk something important.- "Sorry, I couldn't help it. You have to concede that you never call me. How are you?" - She probably chooses to ignore my comment because she just show concern on her answer. - "I'm ok, I guess. I'm actually worried with you. It's been forever you don't call me. I was wondering if something has happened."

I appreciate her concerns, but it raises my suspicions, I know her way too well to know that's not the real reason she's calling me. And by making some drama is her way of trying to melt my heart. - "What a queen drama. I'm just busy. What do you need little sister?"

"That's an understatement.  What makes you think I need something? And don't give me the 'im busy' speech. It doesn't work with me, Ry. You're always busy and that never stopped you to call me."

That's true. I've been beyond enrolled into Rory. She's filling all my free time with her perfect curves and insolent mouth, but this is hardly the time to fill my sister in. - "Maybe because you just call me when you need something. Like MONEY, actually. -  I said emphasizing money. - "And there is pretty serious stuff going on right now, you know."

"Yeah, right. Tell me about it. By the way, how long these shadows will be behind my back, Ry?"

Her way of referring to her bodyguard, says as much as I needed to know. She's upset about them. But for now, that's the way it is. - "As long as the threat lingers." - I try to answer as truffly and evasively as possible.

"Which threat? What's going on?"

I don't want to give her details on what may be happening and that I suspect that those bastards are going to use Jenny to reach me. -
"That's  what I'm trying to figure out."

"The great Ryan Carter is not aware of what's going on? And I'm an easter bunny. That would be a first and I highly doubt it. So spill the beans and tell me why the heck I'm always around those MIB guys watching my every move."

"Hahaha" - Jenny's sense of humor always amuses me. She's really thinking I'm trying to control her. Well, that's not bad, the less her knows the better. - "They are far from watching your every move, Jenny. They are watching the others move, which is around you. They are with you to protect you, not to control your moves and prevent you to live. All the contrary I want you safe and sound. It's just temporary. I promise."
