Chapter 14 - The distance

Author Note: Hello girls, I'm finally back, and this is our next chapter. As I told you I'm already working on the next chapter so I think I'll release it by tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy this new chapter, Carter is dealing with an internal doubt and he's overwhelmed by his feelings. He doesn't quite know exactly what he's feeling. If it is just desire, carnal desire, or passion. One thing is for sure, he's intrigued and he likes challenges a lot and Rory definitely is a challenge, defying him all the time.

This chapter doesn't have a secret scene, there are a few things here that actually happened on the game, as I always said to you, I'm trying my best to be as true to the game as possible, but there are some other things that I totally made up, to make some sense to my story.  This chapter is about a moment at the game they don't interact personally. So I had to think about what he was doing, and feeling away from her, once they're going to have a pretty intense moment on next chapter.

Last night images from Rory refrained me from sleep. I don't know how to deal with all this tension between us. Quite frankly, it's driving me crazy. Instead of going to bed, preventing myself from looking at the ceiling, I head straight to my study. I poured some scotch into a glass and sit at my desk, taking a look at my computer. There are several emails I have to answer, and I tried really hard to concentrate on them, but it was no use. My mind keeps drifting to images from Rory in my office, in the elevator and conjuring up new images from her in my lap in my private jet.

I'm still struggling to figure it out...If what I feel for her is simply lust and physical attraction or something else. One thing is true, I like to be around her. Her smart mouth and wittiness are like a gust of fresh air. I like that she has answers for everything and anything. She's always showing me a different perspective, beating the prepotency out of me.

I keep telling myself that I should let her go, stay away from her, keep our relationship strictly professional. It's for her own good. Being in my position brings consequences, and hurting her is not an option. I try to keep my personal life as far away from the press as I can. I can't show anyone my weakness, because my opponents are definitely going to use them to stop me. That's why nobody knows about my sister or my history. I choose to show the distant cold businessman to protect who I truly love. So, I'll have to figure out a way to forget her and go back to my normal life.

Next week I'll be away from the office, so I'll be able to figure out if what I feel is just carnal because I'm in need or really something else.

I decided to go to Asia before as planned. My flight was scheduled for Monday morning though, I anticipate to leave on Saturday so I don't have to feel the loneliness at home. Even Jenny has been distant, with no reason, and I don't get why. More than once, she bailed on me for dinner. I know that I've been hard on her about the restaurant thing, but she needs to find herself and make something of her life. She can't always count on me for providing for her. She's a grown-up woman now. I tried to call her once again, but she didn't answer, so I text her.

RC: Jenny, just so you know, I'm leaving for Asia tomorrow morning. I'll be back on Friday, so let's try to meet next weekend ok? Your big brother.

JC: Ok. Have a safe flight XO

What the heck... that's what she has to tell me?! There is something really wrong happening here.

I made a mental note to check on Jenny once I'm back and sent an email to Mark to let him know that I'll be away for the next couple of days and that I need him to assist Rory on the Drinking water supply project in the Congo that I entrusted her with.
