my sky

Connor's pov

I sit on the open window sill of my new bedroom. It may be a new town and a new house and a new room, but I look up at the same old sky. My sky. I  brush my scraggly brown hair out of my face and sigh.  My black skinny jeans and hoodie are uncomfortably warm in the middle season of summer.
I hear a knock on my door.
"Come on in" I mumble. Zoe opens my door and steps inside. "Whats up?" I ask.
"Well, I finished unpacking, I was wondering if you'd want any help?" Zoe smiles.
"Let me guess. You want me to give you rides to school here so youre sucking up to me." I raise an eyebrow.
"Youre exactly right.  Is it a deal?" She asks
"I guess. But im not unpacking tonight. Maybe tomorrow." I shrug.
"Really? You're just gonna put it off?" She asks. I shrug. She sighs "well, I'm going to bed. Night, connor. "
"Night, Zoe." She closes my door and my eyes go back to the sky. I make sure everyone is asleep before I roll a joint and sit back in my window sill and take a hit of it. I cough for a few seconds after letting go of the smoke. I feel myself calming down and relaxing as I look out the window and see a kid about my age moving around in the house directly across the street from me.
I watch him try and pull a t-shirt over his broken arm. I cant help but chuckle at the boys failed attempts. He looks like he's about my age, probably shorter than me. He has blondish brown hair. He looks out the window and we lock eyes. He seems genuinely creeped out by the stranger stoner kid watching him make a fool of himself putting a shirt on. I offer a small wave and he gives an awkward one back. He finally gets his shirt on. I gesture to my arm to question him on his broken arm. He just shrugs and shakes his head. He reaches over and tugs his dark blue curtains closed, before turning off his light.
I climb off my windowsill and back into my room. I close the window and change into my greyscale plaid pajama bottoms and grey beater.
I crawl into the bed in the far side of this foreign room. As I snuggle into the dark blankets, the only thing that crosses my mind is that boy.

I'm going to make him my friend.

I tell myself. Its always been so hard for me to make friends. For Zoe friends come so easily, almost naturally. She's always surrounded by amazing and supporting friends, like Alaina.
Alaina is a student at the high school here. When zoe found out we were moving here she got a hold of Alaina over some website and they became quick friends.  Zoe knows how too make sure she's never alone.  But the only thing I know is how to always be alone. I sigh and close my eyes, bringing on sleep.

When I wake up in the morning, Zoe is beating on the door "connor!  Cmon!  We can't be late on our first day! " she yells.
"Okay okay" I grumble "im up" I lie as I pull my black comforter over my head. She sighs and I hear her walk back to her room.
Eventually I drag myself out of bed. I pull my black jacket over my grey brother and Chang into black jeans. I pull on my combat boots and tie them, before grabbing my satchel. I walk downstairs and see zoe waiting in the white living room. She's sitting on the light beige sofa, tapping her fingers impatiently.  When she sees me she stands up and we walk out to the car.
As I drive us to school we both sit in anticipation.  Neither of us know whats ahead for us.
