Heidi's pov

Im working my night shift when I hear the E.R. doors open.
"Heidi, get this patient to a room imidiatley." One of the paramedics instruct.  I nod and quickly grab the patients stretcher and take them to a vacant room. Theyre unconscious and there's blood everywhere. I look at their face and my heart stops.

Its that new boy evan was making friends with... I quickly grab bandages and start wrapping his forearms, seeing thats where the bloods coning from. I page a doctor, knowing I cant help him all on my own.

I quickly look through his files and figure out his blood type, before hooking him up to an IV, and i prep blood. I have to be sure hes done bleeding before I give him blood, otherwise that'll bleed out too.
After a few minutes, a doctor comes in.
"Patient's name?" He asks as he observes connor.
"Connor Murphy. Injuries look self inflicted. Can you stop the bleeding while I contact his mother?" I ask, knowing she's probably already on her way.
"Of course." He nods as I pull out my phone and step out into the hall. I dial Cynthia's number.
"H-hello?" Her cracked voice answers.
"Cynthia,  its heidi. Im here in the E.R with Connor. I figured you're aware of the situation?" I speak calmly for the both of us.
"Yes. W-we will 've up there shortly. Larry is coming home from work now to get us. Heidi, please take good care of him." She sniffles.
"I wouldn't dream of doing any less. I'll see you shortly." I hang up and go back into the room.
"The bleeding is stopped, and I connected The blood bag." Doctor Monroe informs me. "I'm going to go check on another patient, page me if you need to. " I nod and he leaves the room.
I decide to stay with Connor until Cynthia arrives. After a few minutes of silence I hear a weak groan and look at Connor's pale face and watery eyes. He looks up at me.
"Connor, your awake. " I give him a small smile.
"W-where am I?" He asks.  His voice sounds weak and raspy.
"The hospital. Your family is on their way." I tell him, brushing back some of his dark brown hair. He looks down at his arms and I can see the disappointment in his eyes. "Are you sad it didn't work? " I ask. I'm not being rude, just trying to show I understand how he's feeling.
"I'm so sick and tired of being here. I'm tired of being depressed. This boy, Evan, is the only person I've ever been able to make friends with, and I was an ass to him last night. H-he wanted to help me." Connor tries to keep his composure.
"Evan would never stay mad at you, I promise. " I hum, trying to calm him down.
"Not to sound rude, but how would you know? " He asks, his glazed blue and brown eyes searching my face.
"Well, I hope I'd know, I'm his mother." I chuckle.
"O-oh" Connor inhales deeply but it's painfully laboured.
"I know he forgives you because all he's talked to me about the past few days is you. He showed me the fern, his cast, everything. " my words make a weak smile trace itself onto Connor's pale lips.
Before either of us can speak another word, the door opens and the Murphy family walk in, along with Evan. Evan looks up at me and I smile softly.
Larry looks at his son, a look of disappointment in his eyes.
Cynthia and zoe, on the other hand, race up to Connor.
"Connor, are you okay? " Zoe asks, her eyes puffy and red.
"I'm fine, zoe." He promises her. Evan walks over and stands by me.

Evan's pov

I realized something scary when I had walked in on Connor bleeding out. I realize I'm falling for him. And it broke my heart into a million pieces to think I almost lost him.
I look at him laying in his hospital bed and he looks so fragile. Like he could shatter, like a porcelain doll. If porcelain dolls wore edgy band tees and hoodies.
His eyes drift over to me and I walk over to the bed. Cynthia stands up, and let's me kneel where she was. I reach for his hand, it seems like the only thing I can do. His hand is ice cold in mine.
"C-Connor? " my voice cracks, but that's the least of my worries right now.
"Yeah? " his weak voice replies.
"W-when you're released, i-i wanna take you somewhere... If t-that's okay..." I look up at him and he smiles down at me. It's not a huge smile, but it's definitely there.
"Sounds good." He agrees. I smile back.
"See Connor? " my mom smiles and he returns it. I'm not too sure what that's about.
After about an hour, the Murphy's head home, but I stay by Connor's side.
"Evan, honey?" My mom hummed.  "My shifts over, I'm heading home. Want a ride? "
"No. I wanna stay with Connor" I shake my head. Connor smiles at me a little.
"Okay, here's some money for the cafeteria then. Its open all night." Mom goes to hand me money.
"Heidi, you don't have to do that." Connor shakes his head. "I have my wallet. I owe it to Evan anyways." Mom is conflicted, but she knows better than to argue with a patient. She puts the money away, and leaves. I look at Connor.
"...Connor?" I whisper.
"Mhm?" he looks at me.
"D-did Jared and I cause this?" I ask, raising my eyes to look into his blue ones. I just now notice his left eye had a brown stripe in it. It's beautiful.
"No. None of this was your fault, Evan. I promise." Connor sits up, as well as he can.
"Then what was it? " I ask. Connor sighs and gestures for me to join him on the bed.  I gently sit by him and he pulls me to lay into his side with my head on his chest. He puts an arm around me. I blush softly as I listen to his heart beating.
"I suffer from depression. My entire life is a dysphoria. And as much as I'd love to have a positive outlook on it, I can't..." He explains. "I mean, you saw my family. Yeah, mom and zoe were torn up, but dad? He was ashamed. And by the time I go home, they'll be convinced they should be ashamed too. Not worried, or understanding. Just ashamed. "
"I'm sorry... but if it's any constellation, I'll never be ashamed in you." I tell him. He laughs softly. "Connor, you can't die on me. We need eachother. You can show me how to stop fearing life, and I'll teach you to stop hating it." I look up at him.
"Deal. " He smiles.
