Hey guys! So first time writing a story on here, yay! Still trying to work the tricks, but I'll manage. Please know I do not own SU and that this is a fan-fiction. Hope you guys enjoy the story. :)
-Luna's POV-
Stay in the light of the moon; you'll be safe.
That's what I've been told the first eight years of my life by my dad. He said it's what my mom would've told me if she lived past her childbirth. But my father said she was amazing and beautiful, like the moon. But after eight years old....my father disappeared. I came home one day to find he wasn't home. But instead, I came home to find it filled with strange creatures. I didn't get a good look, as one jumped me, and nearly killed me. I've been running ever since.
And now, fifteen years old, I still don't understand anything about myself. I sat on a tree branch, watching as the sun set. For some odd reason, the creatures that chase me only come after me at night. But, strangely enough, I'm strongest at night. Especially at times when the moon is out, more so when it's a full moon.
But tonight was a new moon....so I had to be extra careful.
I hopped down from the branch and made my way to the edge of the forest. I had to be quick; the sun sets quickly when your not paying attention. I looked out, and saw in the distance a town. It sat at the bottom of a large cliff that over looked the sea. As the sun was setting, the light from the sun was shining and reflecting off the water, making it twinkle like stars. I couldn't help but smile; besides the moon, I always felt safe near the beach.
I sat on the hill at the edge of the forest for a bit. I took my hair out of its ponytail and allowed it to fall a bit past my shoulders. It was a deep brown color, looking almost black, making my skin look even paler then it should. I've been told by my dad my eyes look like the night sky, which I always assumed meant a dark blue color. But sometimes, I'll catch a twinkle in them or a burst of a different color from time to time. I was pretty tall, but not insanely like 6'5'' or something. The clothes I was wearing were a bit stained and torn, but it was the only clothes I got. It was dark green shirt with black shorts, and I wore flip flops with them, but they were pretty worn out.
All the while I didn't have any personal possessions; after all since I left in a hurry with monsters on my tail. I sighed as I remembered that the sun was almost gone. I quickly got up and made my way down the hill. If I could get to the town before night fell, maybe I could be able to hide better there. But for some reason they have been able to still find me, no matter how well I hide myself or how far I run. It's an endless chase.
And I'm slowly losing.
I get to the edge of the town just as the sun sets. Suddenly, a volley of screech filled the air. I covered my ears, and memories flooded in from that day eight years back when I first saw those creatures. They didn't even look like a normal animal. They looked.....crystallized in a way. They had wings as big as an eagle and were made with black obsidian. In fact, there entire form was made of obsidian. There wings were attacked to a cat like creature with glowing yellow eyes that looked like gold. They each had a obsidian stone in there chest, and there screech were terrible. The noise still gives me nightmares even now.
Once the screech stopped, I knew it was only a matter of minutes before they would see me. I dashed behind a building and ducked behind a dumpster. I quieted my breathing and looked into the sky. Dark figures flew past but a few hovered over where I was at. I waited maybe ten minutes before they left. I slowly came out of hiding and looked around. I wasn't safe though. I heard a low growl and spun on my heel. Behind me, was one of those obsidian cat winged creatures.
I gulped, "Nice kitty."
It screeched, signaling to the others that it had found me. I threw a rock at it, but it only plinked off of its head, making it irritated. I made a dash out of the alley and down a boardwalk. I rush down the steps until I hit the sand and dove underneath the boardwalk. I pressed myself against the rock wall and looked up. The creatures were prowling slowly above my head. I stopped breathing, as I felt the sweat trickle down the side of my face. I clenched and unclenched my hands. I pressed my hands together, feeling the cool smoothness of my gem in my right hand.
Right....I forgot to mention that about myself.
I'm not like normal people. My dad said it used to be my mom's and now it was mine. He said that I'll be able to use it some day and that it'll help me. Well, so far, it's been anything BUT helpful. Every time the light catch my gem, it seems like every one of those creatures know where I'm at when it happens. Lucky, I wasn't near any lights so they won't catch me.
Or so I thought.
The lights were still on on the boardwalk and I didn't notice a single beam near me. I moved my hand and my gem hit the light. A blue light reflected as the light touched my gem. "No!" I whispered, but it was too late. The movement of the creatures stopped, and I closed my hand into a fist. I held my breath as I waited for the creatures to do something, ANYTHING.
I slowly got up and only moved one step when the creatures broke throw the the boardwalk above me, and came crashing down in front of me. It was three total, all baring there fangs and claws were out. I slowly inched my way backwards, out from underneath the board walk. One leaped at me but missed. I turned and dashed down the beach, running as fast as I could. I sprinted fast and hard through the shallow part of the ocean. The water seemed to fill me with energy as I ran, making the creatures behind me fall back farther.
I ran around the cliff, and came out of the water, gasping for air. I looked up and noticed a strange statue of some sort carved into the cliff. It's arms were up as if holding something. One was closed into a fist while the other was open, palm facing up. It had long hair and a gem on it's chest. I couldn't but gaze at it. There was a house at the bottom of the figure, where it rested on a hill that sloped down towards the beach. It had a wooden porch leading down, and I couldn't help but wonder the many great mornings the people get.
I was too absorbed and distracted. I took too long of a break, because next thing I knew one of the creatures tackled me. It pinned my arms against the sand and I could feel it's fangs near my cheek. I tucked my feet under and kicked it off of me. I jumped up and noticed five of them had me surrounded in a circle. I curled my hands into fist and brought them close to my face. My hands were going to hurt, but I need some way to fight.
One charged at me and I dodged it, while another leaped at me. I punched it's jaw, but my fingers stung like crazy. I hissed in pain, but another one jumped at me from behind. I threw a punch with my other hand and it fell back. I shook my hand trying to get rid of the pain. They kept leaping and charging at me fast. I knew I couldn't keep up much longer but I had to try.
I turned my back and kept turning in a circle, waiting for one of them to charge. "Come on!" I shouted, angry, "Who's next?"
I made the mistake of taunting them. One charged at me in front and I punched it. But suddenly, pain exploded in my back and I screamed. Two had charged at me; one in the front and one in the back. The one behind me, had clawed my back. I collapsed to the ground, feeling the stinging in my back. I was gasping for air, and I tried to get up. But the pain was too much and I fell back in the sand. The creatures were closing in on me now. I knew this was it. No way was I getting out of this one. I closed my eyes and waited for my fate.
Suddenly, I heard a sword swing through the air and a slicing sound. I opened my eyes and saw one of the obsidian creatures exploded and an obsidian gem fell to the ground. I looked up and saw three people standing in front of me, shielding me from these creatures. They readied themselves and started fighting the creatures.
I felt a hand rest on my back and I shivered. I looked up and saw a boy with black curly hair in a small afro sort of hair style. He wore a pink shirt with a yellow star in the middle. He wore dark blue pants, and he was a little on the chubby side. He had a medical bandage and was wrapping my back up. He noticed me looking at him and he smiled, "Don't worry, we'll take care of you."
"Steven!" I heard one of the three fighters yell. He looked up, and saw one of the creatures come towards us. However, a purpled studded whip lashed out and hit the creature, turning it into obsidian gem. I looked, amazed at who it was who did that. A girl about the boy's height stood not to far from us. She had long white wavy hair that stuck up at some ends. She wore a purple tank top over a black one. She wore black pants where at the knees were cut outs of stars. She wore white shoes, and her skin was...purple? On her chest poked out a circular purple gem.
She had a gem too?!
"Got it!" she said, turning back to the fight. Steven finished wrapping the bandage and helped me sit up. "You okay?" I nodded, and noticed that his shirt came up a little. and that he too had a gem on his stomach. I looked at him surprised. "You have a gem too?" I asked. He looked at me confused, but nodded. Suddenly, my head felt heavy and I collapsed in the sand.
"Oh no!" Steven said. I heard the fighting stop and the sounds of feet approaching. M eyes sight started to to get foggy and I felt someone turn me over and cradle my head. I looked up and saw blurry figures of four people, one of which was holding me. I heard a voice repeating itself over and over again. Finally I heard it clearly enough to understand; "What is your name?"
I whispered my name before I passed out, "My name is Luna."
