"How do we find out where all these girls were at the time of the theft? Trisha asked the others. "I really think that sheriff Cooper will take care of that." Annie said. "So what can we do?" Katie asked her. "Well, the sheriff said we should keep our eyes and ears open." Beth put in. "So maybe we should do some eavesdropping on conversations." she finished.
A small group of girls came into the common room just as Beth had finished speaking. Annie said a friendly hello, and the girls chimed "Hi." "Hey! Have y'all been interviewed by sheriff Cooper yet?" A tall girl with short black hair and a turned up nose said, "I love your accent." "Thanks." Annie said, waiting for a reply to her question. Another short, blond headed girl with popping blue eyes answered, "Yeah, all of us, the other girls nodded in agreement.
"He's really nice." a redheaded girl praised him. "Thank goodness we all had alibis," the tall brunet said on a sigh. "Have you all....I can't say that as cute as you do." she said interrupting herself. "Anyway have you guys all been interviewed?" she wondered. "Yes. We all have alibis too." Beth said with a grin.
"See ya!" The tall brunet said, as she and her friends headed for the sofas. "We'd like to talk with the sheriff." Annie said over her shoulder as she and her friends made their way to the exit. "You wouldn't know which way he went, would you?" "He said he had missed lunch. He went to ask Ruthie to make him a sandwich," the little blond girl said.
"Thanks," Annie said, waving. The girls waved back. As soon as Annie, Beth, Katie and Trisha were out the door, Beth nudged Annie in the side and said, "See, I told you your accent was cute." Annie smiled.
