Chapter 13

Ava dropped her pencil and spun around on the bar stool. "How?"

I went and stood by her side, "Ava just got into town yesterday. How does our father know?"

Zach shrugged, my phone rang and I answered it. It was an unknown number.

"Go for Hart," I said.

"Izzy! We need you and Gray to meet us at the organization's headquarters. Immediately!" Jess's voice came through the speaker.

"On our way."

I ended the call and grabbed my car keys off of the table. "Dante, you need to get back to the Assassins. Zach, you should go too. Ava should be safe here." I turned to Gray, "Let's go."

We rushed out of my house and into my car. Gray looked at me but I kept my eyes on the road, driving fast. "Izzy. Slow down. What the hell is going on?"

"That was Jess on the phone. I heard gunshots in the background and she sounded frightened. We're going to headquarters." I said, I took a deep breath and slowed down the car.

"Okay." Was all Gray said. He spoke again when I was 10 mins away from the organization, "What's going on between you and Dante?"

"Nothing." I didn't want to discuss this with him yet. Especially not now.

"Let me clarify." He turned towards me in his seat, "What happened between you two?"

I took a deep breath, "We dated two years ago."

"Did you break up with him?"

I shook my head, "No."

"Then why is he still flirting with you?" I looked at Gray, he seemed vulnerable and angry, jealousy was mixed in too.

"I don't know Gray. He probably never moved on." I pulled into the organization parking lot, "Look, we'll talk about this later." I got out of the car and started walking towards the door, I wanted to leave it at that but my mouth had other plans, "Besides it shouldn't even matter to you, we aren't together!"

"It matters to me. A lot." He said.

"Why?" I snapped at him, I turned around to face him. "You obviously don't want anything serious so why do you care if Dante flirts with me?"

"Elizabeth!" I heard Jess's voice but I ignored her.

"Why Gray?" I asked, softer this time. Gray's features softened. 

"Elizabeth!" Jess called again, I turned towards her then back to Gray.

He grabbed my hand, "We'll talk about this later Izzy."

Then he dropped my hand and started walking to Jess. I blew out a frustrated sigh then followed them.

We walked into the basement, Mike opened up a dark room. The only light we had was the flashlight that Mike brought with us. 

When he shone the flashlight over the room. I saw Zach and Dante tied to a chair, their faces bruised and bloody. He had a bandanna over his eyes so he couldn't see where he was. I rushed to Zach's side. "What the hell Mike?"

"We saw them with the Assassins, they were the only ones we were able to capture," Mike said, I had forgotten I haven't told him that Zach and Dante have been helping us.

"Mike." I said calmly, "Where are the keys? They shouldn't be here."

"What?! They work with Bruce and Joshua though." Mike replied, Jess just leaned on the door frame and Gray was by Dante's side. I took the bandanna off of Zach and Gray took Dante's off.
