Gray and I turned around to face my father, "Shit." Gray mumbled under his breath.
I smiled at my dad, "Heyyyy..." I said, dragging out the word, "How's it going Dad?"
He walked closer to us, causing Gray and me to step back into the room where Zach and Dante were. My father walked into the room as well and shut the door behind him, "Why are you two here?" I excepted him to be angry or to even call upon the rest of his little friends but he didn't do anything and his voice was calm.
"Why does it matter?" I asked, standing up to my full height. "You'll just kill us anyway."
"Actually, no, I won't kill you two and I won't punish Zach or Dante for giving you information about us." He smiled at me, "I've known for a long time that they've been helping you."
"W--what?" I looked at Gray then back at my father, "How?"
My father just shrugged, "Joshua told me all about your little attack at the fair and how you got the drive." He looked at me, "I honestly couldn't be more proud."
"Proud?" I asked, confused. I moved closer to Gray, he grabbed my hand and held me close to him.
"Yes, Elizabeth. I'm actually very proud of you." He looked at Zach and Dante, "You two should go find Josh so he doesn't get suspicious of anything."
"Yes, sir." They said at the same time then left the room. After the door shut and locked again, my father looked from me to Gray back to me.
"Have you two watched the video?" He asked, his voice was low and his gray-blue eyes took on a darker shade. Almost like he was haunted.
I shook my head, "No, we stopped watching after Mom said, Now, I don't know if I'm alive and they're just holding me captive by the time you watch this or if I'm dead. Let's hope alive." I looked at Gray, "Why?"
"Then you didn't get to the part when your mother tells you that we never divorced and she was trying to help me bring down the Assassins." He looked at Gray, "Your father is the one who wants to have control over all the organizations." He turned back to me, "Your mother and I just got a divorce last year. Our relationship wasn't working and she fell in love with Mike." My father's voice was pained and I felt bad, so I decided to tell him the truth.
"No, she never fell in love with Mike. Yes, she loves him but not like you think." I looked up to look into my father's eyes, "She loves him as a brother. She still loves you. She never stopped loving you." I let go of Gray's hand, "If what you're telling me is true, how come you made me believe she was dead?"
"I didn't make you believe anything. Since your Mom disappeared when you were just two, you were forced to believe she was dead because she never came back. For you or Ava." He looked at me, "She left you with Mike because she knew you two would be safe with him." My father leaned against the wall by the door with his right shoulder, his hands in the pockets of his suit, and his ankles crossed. "I only wish I could have been there for you two."
"What about my mom?" Gray asked. I wasn't sure if I could believe my dad or not, by all means, I wanted to but I wasn't sure.
"Cassie was going to die. Joshua intended for her to die." He looked at Gray, "But I stopped him from letting the Assassins kill her. I told him that she would be useful because of how well she does with computers. They're both alive and well."
There came a knock at the door, "Who is it?!" My father yelled.
"It's Josh, sir." I felt Gray tense beside me, my father looked at us and pointed to the ventilation shaft above the shelves, "Go." He mouthed.
I started climbing the metal shelves, I get to the top and open the shaft. I crawl in first then Gray follows behind me, he put the grid back over the shaft. I told him to wait, I wanted to hear what Joshua said.
"Bruce, a black car was spotted by the back entrance. You and I need to go check it out." Joshua said, I remember how Joshua and my father became best friends after my dad left me.
"Why do we need to go check it out? Joshua, it's a car, not a bomb. Besides, no one can get through our security measures." My father said, I knew he knew that we were still listening.
I looked through the grid and saw Joshua lean against the door frame, "What about your daughter? She has the drive, she'll know that Emerald and Cassie are still alive."
My father nodded, "She could and she probably did but by all means, she's gone, she has to get home to Ava. Hope gave them a false location, you and I both know they aren't here."
"We don't know where they are at all." Joshua said, "Unless you're hiding something."
Bruce shook his head, "They should still be where you left them. Did they escape?"
Josh shook his head, my father spoke again, "Okay then. Let's finish what we were doing then."
My father and Josh left the room, I started crawling through the shaft. "Where to Hope?"
"Turn right." She replied, we did, "Turn left." We turned left and fell down a ramp into a cart full of aprons. "Alright, you should be in the washroom. Go through the south door. It'll lead you right to the car."
We did as we were told. I opened my car door and got in, Gray followed after me. I drove away, keeping my headlights off and making as little noise as possible. Once I got back on the main road, I flipped my headlights on. "Do you think he was telling the truth?" Gray asked, breaking the silence.
I shrugged, "I don't know what to believe." I sighed, "Hope, you heard the whole thing, right?"
She nodded, "Will you look into it for me, please?" I asked.
"Yup. Get me back into headquarters and I can hack the government database to look at their divorce papers."
We drove back to the headquarters in silence, my dad's words swirled around my brain like a tornado. I pulled into my parking spot and Hope got out of the car, Gray followed after her. I shut off the car and just sat there, thinking.
Gray opened my door, "Izzy?" I didn't respond, I just sat there, staring out of my windshield, my whole world falling apart around me. "Izzy." He said again. I didn't speak, he sighed and picked me up, breaking me out of my trance.
"What are you doing?" I asked as he sat me down in the passenger seat of the car then got in the driver's seat. He turned on the car and looked at me.
"We're going home." He said then leaned over and kissed me, "You need dinner and then sleep."
I was about to protest but he kissed me again, then again. His lips parted and I slid my tongue into his mouth. He moaned and I smiled against his lips.
I pulled away and said, "Let's go home."
He gave me a small smile then drove away from the organization. I saw Hope going to her car and I waved at her, she smiled at me and waved back then got into her car and drove off in the other direction, going home to her husband.
