I woke up and expected to find Klaus sleeping beside me, but my hand found nothing but an empty space. I sat up and looked around in confusion before my hearing picked up his voice.

"No, you can't call yourself a connoisseur if you have not sampled each and every one of these."

I smiled, knowing he was downstairs with our daughter. I got out of bed and got changed before making my way out of the room. When I walked into the courtyard, Klaus and Hope were sitting at a table that was full of luscious food.

Klaus picked up a pastry and held it towards Hope. "Here."

Hope took a bite

Hope took a bite. "Mm. It's so good."

I smiled at the sight. "Well, you can thank the chef your father compelled to make that."

Klaus and Hope looked at me.

"Ah, morning, love," Klaus said.

"Good morning," I stood next to him and we shared a loving kiss before I looked at all the food. "I see we're off to a wonderful start. I guess apple turnover is fruit."

"I saw no harm in indulging our daughter's sweet tooth," Klaus said. "All things in moderation, of course."

"Okay, well, don't eat too many," I told Hope. "You'll get a stomach ache."

Hope nodded.

Klaus looked at our daughter. "Did I ever tell you the story of my first Beignet?" Hope shook her head. "No? You are in for a treat." Klaus lifted Hope off his lap, making her giggle and sat her in the chair while he walked around the table. "Long ago, three French nuns came to New Orleans looking for a fresh start. They came here and marched right into our courtyard and they presented your Uncle Elijah and me with these rather lumpy looking sugar-coated pastries. And needless to say, we were entranced. We set them up quite well."

"Why did they come to you?" Hope asked.

Klaus knelt in front of her. "Because there was a time where we were regarded as royalty." Klaus and I shared a look. "You might even go so far as to say I was King, which would make you a princess."

Hope and I smiled.

"That makes Mom your Queen," Hope told us.

Klaus looked at me. "Yes, it does."

Hayley walked in. "Nina, can we talk?"

I looked at her in confusion, sensing she was worried about something. Hayley and I walked away a few steps to talk privately.

"Have you seen Elijah?" Hayley asked.

I shook my head. "I haven't seen him since he left for Marcel's last night."

Now I was worried. If Elijah's not here, then where the hell is he?
