I know
I know
Don't yell at me, people. I know what you're thinking "Updates are getting slow" "We want to know what happens next"
and I get it,I totally do. And if you unfollow or report me for what I am about to say, please at lease take into account the words I have written. On Monday 22 May, after Ariana's concert came to a close, there was a terrorist attack which left 22 people dead and 120 injured. I know I am not the first to pay tribute, and nor will I be the last.
It is at times like these when we see people unite, with kindness and warmth shining through. I know many will have heard by now, given the large coverage provided by celebrities. James Cordon payed his respects on Monday in his show. Ariana and her manager posted their tribute. YouTubers have put up videos, Celebrities have tweeted and retweeted. The world leaders gave speeches. Videos have been taken down by the social media sites (Facebook in particular) for being against content guidelines when the video urges people to not pin this on the Muslim religion.
Theresa May, PM of England commented during a press interview on Downing Street on the 23 May about how the Terrorist Threat in Britten has raised to critical, which means we must all stand stronger than ever as one and put all differences aside.
However, I also know, as has happened before, that while we stand strong as one, there are people who are stood against. These are the Muslims, who are blamed because we cannot scream at ISIS ourselves. We blame the Muslims who are innocent simply because of their religion, because ISIS claim themselves to be Muslims. How, in any way is this right, that the innocent are being shunned because of their religion? Shunned because we become fearful and defensive, thinking that everyone who is of the religion is the same. Shunned because a group of extremists (terrorists) have the nerve to call themselves Muslims.
Now, don't say that it's not certain that ISIS is to blame, but they are. They released a video admitting to it. But I implore you to think before you act - don't go out and blame any random Muslim you might see, don't shun friends, peers or neighbours because of the religion they are a part of. How would you like it if a random person accused you of something you didn't do? How would you like it of your friends, your FAMILY turned on you because of religion? Please, think about this before you say anything to them that might hurt them, might be harsh or rude. Take the time to check that they are okay, that no one has called them out on grounds of being a Muslim because there is NOTHING wrong with the religions people are a part of.
It discrimination and goes against the Equality Act 2010 and the human rights Act. Both of these Acts state that a person is free to be part of whatever religion they so wish without fear of prejudice or discrimination.
So please, show your support, do your part in reducing stigma against the religion who are nothing to do with these attacks but being caught in religion the Terrorists have proclaimed they act under. Let us try to avoid the words "Muslim" and "Terrorist" being used together in a sentence, for neither are related.
