An Old Friend

[FAST FORWARD]

The recess bell rang. In the first period it was free because the Science teacher was absent so the new kids like me were asked to go ahead and introduce ourselves. Then we had math then English. So far the classes have gone well, I knew some of my classmates as people from my other school and I just couldn't wait for making more new ones. Through the process my anxiety had shrunken greatly so I was relieved I didn't have to do anything about it.

I didn't have my lunch bag so I went to the canteen to buy a sandwich (a cheese one; they're my favorite). Just as I gave the money to the cashier and I was about to walk out, a boy whom I have probably never seen before blocked me.

"Whatcha doin'?" The boy asked me with an innocent smile. I raised my eyebrows in utter shock and confusion.

"You blocked my way to tell me that?"

"Yeah so? It's not like I'll hand you a kill bill then kill you or something."

"Then why did you stop me other than that stupid reason of yours?" I went firm on this little rascal. Clearly he doesn't know that he's a newbie too. I remember him as the 'chatterbox of the class' earlier.

"But don't you remember me?" The boy threw up his hands in frustration.

"Are you supposed to–" I began to say when I thought of something I kind of regret thinking. Perhaps I really DO remember him, maybe from my old school. He must've been in the school's basketball team, the youngest player. If I remember seeing him play, then I might remember his name.

"Jung Kook I guess? Is that your name?" I tried to hand out a correct answer.

"She finally remembers! Come on and give me a hug!" The boy said. Aaw he looked so sweet when he held up his arms for an embrace. I pouted and decided to take the chance, but I regretted it then.

"Poof! You sure are a bone crusher!" I gasped for air in the super tight grip.

"Not usually," Jung Kook replied. "I'm doing it right now because I missed you."

"I'm doing it right now because I missed you."

"I missed you."

Missed me. I didn't think anyone would have missed me THAT much. But if he said it and really meant it, I'd be on a higher level.

"Aha you missed me..." I stuttered.

"Of course! I never joke, Ji Ryeong," Jung Kook replied with another smile. I froze.

"I thought you said you'll joke all the time? You didn't break your promise~"

"Uff! I said from now one!"

"Eh whatever~"

"Hey you wanna meet my new gang?" Jung Kook asked me when he let go of me. "They're gonna be cool okay?"

"Um sure!" I replied happily and I glanced at my watch. "But probably in the second recess because the bell's gonna ring any second. Besides, that's a longer recess so we might stay together right?"

"Yep!" said Jung Kook. He tugged at my arm and added, "Let's go!"

"Okay okay!" I laughed.
