{CHAPTER 1}

Myra's POV:

I stepped onto the college grounds, bidding goodbye to the outside world, as I headed for the Rockford University Girls' Dormitory.

This place was now my home for the next 2 years until I graduate. I walked into the registrars' office to sign in,

"Hi darling, how may I help you?" the woman with slightly grey hair got up from her seat to greet me and shook hands with me.

"My name is Mrs. Anne Jolly, but the girls' just call me AJ" she tried explaining in the most english accent I had ever heard.

I finally spoke up, "umm.. I'm a first year. Myra. Myra JaiSingh."

She gave me a quick warm smile before turning to her computer.

"American?" she questioned, her eyes still on the computer, as she recognized my accent. I shook my head.

"Indian" I corrected.

"Oh, sorry dear, your accent made it a bit hard. Here we go, Myra JaiSingh. I expect you just arrived from the states?"

I nodded. "Well, you did request a single dorm, but unfortunately none are available because all the senior's acquire them, so you have a roomie. I hope you have no issues." I shook my head.

"Can I get her name?"

"Yeah sure, one sec"

She then turned to me once again and said my roomies name. I thanked her and with my keys in my hand, I walked towards the elevator.

Dorm: 124

That was the room I had for a whole year. Well, I have to share for a year. I unlocked the door and walked in, my bag on my back, and my suitcase trailing behind me.

There were two double beds, probably the only pieces of furniture in the room other than two bedside tables and study desks, and both beds were equipped with pillows and blankets; one with a wall to its side, and the other with a window, which overlooked the campus.

I chose the one with the window and started unpacking and getting comfortable with my surroundings.

To set the ambience of home, I put my hair up in a bun, wore some dark trackies with a black crop top and a matching half hoodie.

Some 2 or so hours later, the door once again creaked open and in walked a girl with bright, playful, brown eyes.

She was wearing a long, beige sweater with black leggings and similar beige converses. Her hair fell half way down her back in straight streaks of dark brown. She wasn't that tall, about 5'3, but who was I to boast, I also stood at a average 5'6.

"Nia Bhardwaj?" I questioned eyeing her.

"Myra JaiSingh?" she pointed towards me and we both nodded.

All of a sudden, she burst out laughing and because laughing is contagious, I followed close behind her.

When we finally got hold of ourselves, we sat opposite eachother on our beds.

"So you're American?" Nia asked.

"So you're English?" I questioned back.

"No. I was just born and brought up here. I'm Indian."

"Exactly. We're not English or American, we're Indian. Yes I was born and brought up in the states if that answers your question."

She started unpacking as we started getting to know eachother. We started with birthdays, favourite colors, books, movies, etc.

And then the question came.

"So did your parents come to drop you off?"

Parents.

"I'd rather not talk about them please" she got my flow and left the topic.

"Never mind. Out of curiosity, do you have a boyfriend?"

I shook my head in negative and she gasped.

"What?"

"How is it possible? A girl like you not have a boyfriend? I can't believe my whole life has been a lie!" she acted.

"Drama?" I questioned, guessing it must be her major, "I want to go into the world of acting, and glamour. Something different and live my life, my way" she said as if it were some powerful dialogue.

For once I spoke my mind, "you must be very brave. Not everyone has the courage to do what they want to and live their life as per their will" I picked up the one pink thing in my bag and eyed it carefully.

The pink box was no ordinary little box. It was the most precious thing in the world to me, probably the only.

Feeling Nia's gaze on me, I moved forward and put the box back in the bag before putting it inside the mirror closet.

We decided to get some sleep as we decided to explore London tomorrow. Classes don't start till the day after, so in a way, "we'll be celebrating our last moments of freedom" as Nia calls it.

That was a turning point in my life. The day it all started getting better...

Or was it getting worse?

Dun. Dun. Dun.

Suspense building?

Well I sure hope so.

This is it for now. I just want to explore the heights of the newly formed friendship between Nia and Myra so.. we're gonna have some 'girl time' for a bit.
