Rachel's POV
August 15th 2015
"Ughhh..." I sigh. We've been here for two months. Here as in Virginia. I was pretty excited about moving here until I realized that, 1) there wasn't anyone my age in this neighborhood and 2) we don't even know our neighbors. My new town isn't exactly an ideal place for kids to hang out. There's the movies, ice cream, the library, and the park, but I would have to drive to get there and those places, except the library and park, cost money. And quite a bit of it. I'm 12, going into the seventh grade. "Mom, can we go do something? There's nothing to do in this town." I ask. I'm currently lying upside down on the couch, bored. "Why don't you practice basketball or ride your bike?" She responds. "I don't know, Mom. I would, but there's no one my age." Mom looks at me with pity. In our old town, We lived in a residential neighborhood and after a few years, all of my close friends lived there. I could easily walk to each of their houses and we had a pool at we could meet up at with other kids as well. "You could play with Vanessa and JT." Ugh. Vanessa is my younger sister by two years. She's annoying and doesn't want anything to do with basketball. JT, however, is my younger brother by four years. He's not annoying, but he can be when he's lazy. He doesn't really know how to ride a bike yet, so he wouldn't be an ideal partner in either one of those things. "Isn't there a beach or someplace to go to around here?" She gives me a look that tells me she knows something. Please let there be someone my age- "There's a beach down the main road from here. You can easily bike there. See here." She shows me her phone with Google Maps displayed with the directions to what appears as "Colonial beach". "OK, thanks mom." I'm running upstairs. I'm not wearing a bathing suit. I'm just going as I am: T-shirt and spandex. With my mesh drawstring bag with one of my old school's mascot logos on it: Cougars. "Bring the phone!" Mom calls. Yeah, I don't have my own phone. My mom took my dad's upgrade, got a new one, cracked the screen two months later, got a new one, fixed her old ones screen and turned it into a "Home phone". I take it whenever I go out on my own or when we go out and my parent's want me to hold onto it. So... what should I bring? Water, check, sunglasses, check, medium sized towel, check, sunscreen applied, phone, check, polaroid camera? Why not? This would be a perfect photo opportunity. My camera also draws a lot of attention whenever I bring it somewhere. Sometimes, people would ask me to take a picture of them and pay me. Cool, huh? MP3 player, check, because playing music off the internet would use data and getting music on it takes money. Snacks, check. Now all I got to do is get my bike from the shed...
