John's POV
"I want to ask Rachel to the BBQ." I tell Alex on our way to 5th period Math. "But I don't know how."
"Just ask her, bro. It's not that hard."
"Oh, really? Gee, thanks." I respond sarcastically.
"Just talk to her as like you usually would." He says.
"How many girls have you dated?"
"Enough to know that that's the advice you need."
Maybe I won't ask her. I mean, it's just a stupid BBQ, right?......... Ughh! I'm hopeless.
Rachel's POV
5th period it ELA or English for me. It's my best subject. My reading level is three grades higher than average. I love reading.
I sit behind a boy named Drew and in front of a girl named Leiahna. Our teacher is Mr. Osterweil. He definitely has a fun way of teaching.
Drew turns around.
"Hey, uh, Rachel. You're friends with John, right?" He has a weird smile. He must be the dorky popular guy that gets called out a lot for trying to be even cooler.
"Yeah." I say.
"Cool." And that's it?
What was that about?
(Later in 8th period)
John's POV
It's gym, so you know what that means: Basketball. We all try our best to get out of the locker room when we can for Early Bird. Early Bird is the time we have before class starts to do whatever. It's really just our time to get on our uniforms and stuff.
I'm making a layup when I see Rachel with a ball. The majority of the girls in our grade tend to sit on the stage and talk or play volleyball, but Rachel, apparently isn't that person.
She makes a foul shot. She shoots..... She scores.
"Man, that girl definitely has her passions, doesn't she?" Matthew says to me.
"You don't even know." I finally say.
"You don't either." He walks away and practices his crossovers.
How could he say that? I know her better. He only cares about her looks....
She runs to make a layup. She makes it.
But... there's a lot I still don't know about her. Her goals. Her aspirations and dreams. Maybe there is pain. Memories...
For once, he might just be right.
