John's POV
"Positive." She says.
She smiles. I've grown to like that smile. I smile back.
"Ok. I'll see you in class." I assure her.
I walk over to my friends. I haven't seen some of them since July.
"Hey, what were you doing with that new girl over there?" Kody asks.
"Yeah." Colin presses.
"She's my friend. I met her on the beach this summer." I respond.
"OOOOOOOOOOO......" Everyone teases.
"Nah, bro, that ain't true." Guti says. His name is really Christian Gutierrez. But we all call him 'Guti'.
"Whatever." I'm not in the mood to argue with them right now.
"She's pretty cute..." Kody says. He's just like Matthew. Only, he's his henchman. Whenever Matthew gets into trouble, Kody tends to be his partner in crime.
"Where she from?" Christopher asks.
"Why don't you ask her yourself?" Why should I be answering questions. I would like her to have a brief knowing of them, just to know where boundaries lie.
"Fine." Christopher backs away.
""Why you gotta be so ruuuude?"" Soto chants and laughs. His name is really Christian Delsoto. But we call him 'Soto'.
A few other laugh with him.
I look over at Rachel. She's talking and laughing with the other girls. Like I knew she would.
Rachel's POV
"Sooooo... are you and John a thing?" Mia asks.
I never thought of us as a couple before...
I look over to see John staring at me. I smile and wave. He seems to come out of a trance, nervously laughs, smiles, and rubs the back of his neck. He waves back. A boy clumsily runs over to get John to join a small group at the basketball court. He runs off with him.
"Rachel?" Someone says.
"Oh, yeah?" I respond.
"Well? Are you?" Lisbeth presses.
"No, we just met a couple of weeks ago. We're friends."
"OOOOOOOO......" Everyone teases.
I just roll my eyes and smile.
"We'll see where you two will go from there." Says Lina.
"There's the back to school BBQ coming up." Ariana grins.
"Maybe he'll ask you." Hannah idealizes.
"Oh, I ship it..." Anne sighs.
The girls go back to talking about things that happened over the summer. I think I'll just listen. John. John Bertola. He would never like me. He only sees me as a friend. Now that he's back with his other friends, he'll just forget about me.
Maybe it's good to have different ways to look at the future.
Maybe so you don't get disappointed and heartbroken in the end.
