Rachel's POV

August 16th 2015

Matthew seems pretty cool. He's... attractive even. He has brown hair and green eyes. Very tan skin. Very skinny. About 5'7. Pretty sporty looking. Not muscular though. Ugh! What am I thinking?! For what I know, he could be a perv! "Don't judge a book by it's cover, Rachel." Jenna is whispering in my head. Jenna is my friend from New York. Like me, she's originally from New York. Parents born and raised. Most of her family is from there. She and I were also born in the same hospital, on the same day. Her dad is also in the Coast Guard. It's like we're almost twins. Anyway, she's repeating it in my head.

John's POV

Jeez, I hope this goes well. Matthew is the kind of guy to like a girl, date her, play her, and go to the next. Annoying. And I have to hear about his drama. I've never really had a girlfriend before. Well, a real, actual relationship. You know how kids do. But, it's not like I don't want one. So far, Rachel hasn't failed to slowly check off things on my girl preferences. Wait... Woah, I don't think I've really....had a preference for a girl before.... Most of the girls in our grade I'm either pretty chill with or I don't interact with them at all. Or at least, only when I need to.

"John....John!" Matthew shouts and snaps in my face.

Wait, what just happened?

"Huh? What?" I respond.

"Ugh, John, You're such a caveman. What do you want to do?" He says.

I look at Rachel in desperation.

"Don't look at me. I've barely been here for two months and I only know this town as well as I know Matthew." She says.

I have no ideas. What should we-

"Why don't we just hang in town?" Matthew frowns at his idea.

He knows that if we agree, we won't have a ride.

Wait, no, my mom will.

"You got money on you?" I ask Matthew.

"Sure do." He says in a slightly silly voice.

I called Mom.

"My Mom said she'll drive us." I announce.

"I biked here." Rachel says.

Um, what are we supposed to do?

Mom arrives a few minutes later as we wracked our brains around what we could do about her bike.

"Just put it in the trunk." Mom says.

"Uhm, Is it going to fit?"

"It's not that big, John."

"Ok."

We make it into town.

"Starbucks?" suggests Matthew.

"Sure." Rachel and I agree.

Matthew's POV

Rachel is pretty cute. She's a little quiet, but idealistic. Woah... I just used a big boy word, haha. I'm still dumb though. So back to Rachel. I ship it. John and her. Though, maybe she doesn't like John. I should get her number. Honestly, she does seem like someone who could cause drama or blow a fuse in the social hierarchy if she tried. What is with the big boy words today? Dial it down, Matt. You're not that smart.

"What're you getting, Matthew?" John asks.

The caveman.

"Ahh, a mocha frapp. " I respond.

Nothing like a good starbucks to kick off your day in town.

"What about you, Rachel?" I ask cautiously.

I don't want to give off the 'bad-boy-gets-written-up-a-lot-pretends-not-to-care' vibe yet.

"I'm not one for coffee, so I'll just get a shaken iced green tea lemonade."

I think she just read John's mind.
