October 23, 1997
Marshall woke up on the floor of his old apartment. He groaned from the discomfort and looked at the time. It was six in the morning and his and Lo's flight was at ten. He grabbed his bag and climbed out the window. The tear streaks from the night before still dried on his face. The cold air stung his eyes and once he got in the the car he started crying again.
"Jesus." He mumbled and shook his head. He called Kim and she picked up on the second ring.
"Hello." She said out of breath.
"Can I see Hailie real quick?" He asked and he could hear his baby girl in the background singing.
"Yeah sure." She said hanging up. He sped over there and Kim was on the porch watching Hailie dance on the grass. She got the little girls attention and when Hailie turned around Marshall was right there in her face, grinning.
"Poppa." She said and hugged him. They sat in the grass and played for half an hour before he got a call. He answered it smirking at his baby girl as he brought the phone up to his ear.
"Hello." He said.
"Hey Marshall, you told me to call you when I was ready." Lolita said lightly coughing.
"Okay, I'm coming now." He said and they hung up. He hugged Hailie and walked to Kim with her in his arms.
"I gotta leave now. I'll call you when I get there." He said and kissed his daughter's cheek. Kim nodded at him and he got in his car and drove to Lolita's. He walked up the stairs and to her apartment door. It flung open and Rebecca was behind it.
"Hey Marshall." She said and he nodded. He saw Jenny was on the couch and so he waved. She rubbed her belly and looked at him, smiling before returning to the show she was watching. He looked at Rebecca in confusion.
"What?" She asked.
"Where's Tatiana?" He asked and she smiled.
"Oh she's in the back with Lo." She said and he nodded. He went to the back and opened the door. Lo was in the closet grabbing her white coat when he came in.
"Lo, Marshall's here." Tatiana said and smiled at him before walking out.
"Hey Marshall." She said coming out. The first thing he noticed her hair was straightened, she was wearing a lip gloss, and she was wearing one of his old shirts. The shirt was from when he was in high school, he was shocked that she kept it. She looked almost angelic. She looked at him and smiled pulling on the coat quickly. She grabbed her bag and keys and they walked to the front together.
"Alright guys, we're heading out now." She said and the girls all waved goodbye.
Marshall and Lolita walked out to the car and he opened her door. He started the drive to the airport. He hadn't told her about how he was so broke he got evicted and had to break into the apartment the night before to avoid the cold exposure. He hadn't told her about how he spent the night crying his eyes out while jotting down rhymes either. He didn't want her to be concerned or have that burden and he didn't want her to have to support him when he never did the same. As usual she saw through him, she was sitting there talking when she suddenly stopped and stared at him.
"Marshall Mathers the Third, what are you hiding from me?" So he looked at her, tears poured out before he could stop them and she sighed.
"Pull over, I'm driving." He reluctantly did as she said and she kept driving as he started talking.
"I didn't have enough money for bills and shit and so I got evicted, man. All I'm trying to do is make Hailie proud and I can't seem to do anything right." He said and Lo sighed.
"Where did you sleep last night, Marshall?" She asked and the tears poured out all onto his shirt.
"I broke into one of the places I used to stay at and slept there." He said, his body sweating from the hoodie. He wiped his face quickly and she sighed.
"Marshall, I need you to never do that shit again. I'm your best friend, you should've called me or Deshaun, you didn't have to do that." She said and he nodded.
"I love you, Lo." He said and she giggled.
"I love you too, now pull yourself together." She said and turned on the radio. She put in a Nirvana CD and the song Where Did You Sleep Last Night came on.
"My girl, my girl where will you go?
I've been going where the cold wind blows." Marshall couldn't help but laugh at her singing. She was a beautiful singer who kept that hidden and sang bad for entertainment purposes. She pulled into the airport parking lot and paid for the three days. They grabbed their bags and went to the checkin counter. After getting through security they headed towards the gate. She sat down first and then he laid down on her lap and fell asleep. She rubbed her fingers through his hair and read a book she had brought with her.
An Hour Later
"Boarding group C." She woke Marshall up and they quickly hopped in the line. He looked at Lolita with both love and sleep in his eyes and smiled. She returned the look and they walked through the tunnel to get onto the plane. They took their seats and just after the plane got off the landing strip they fell asleep.
Halfway through the flight Marshall began dreaming. In the dream, he jumped off a building and was screaming at the top of his lungs. At the bottom he could see Lolita standing there screaming something at him and behind her Kim with Hailie just watching. When he hit the bottom the concrete sunk in then he woke up.
When he woke he kicked the seat in front of him waking up Lolita.
"What's wrong?" She mumbled looking at her watch.
"Weird dream, I'm sorry." He said and she nodded. She put her head on his shoulder and slipped a mint in her mouth.
"What was it about?" She asked.
"I'll tell you later, I have no idea." He said and Lolita nodded off. He looked out the window and saw the plane start to turn and he could see the city lights. He smiled and watched as they landed.
When they landed they grabbed their bags and called for a cab. They got to the hotel and Marshall started reading about  his opponents. As he did his research Lolita was getting ready for bed.
She pulled out her phone once she got into the bathroom and called all the girls.
"Hey Jenny, are all of y'all there?" She asked and they all said yes.
"We just got to our room, he's really busy. I'm so tired though, I slept the whole flight. There were so many direct flight connections, that's why we got here so late. They took us to Boston and picked up some people and then we flew here." She said and the girls all gushed.
"Are y'all gonna fuck?" Tatiana asked.
"I don't know, probably not." They all groaned in disappointment and stirred.
"Well, Lo, make sure you're back by November." Jenny said and she laughed.
"I will." She said cracking up. She finished talking to the, and then hung up. She took off her outfit and hopped in the shower. She hummed a song and on the outside Marshall was sitting at the door listening. He finished reading for now and was just wanting for her to get out of the bathroom so he could have his gorgeous brown haired teddy bear to sleep with. Then he realized what song she was now singing and he couldn't stop grinning.
"I just don't give a fuckkkkkk." She sang before laughing and turning off the water. He stood up and walked to the bed.
"Marshall." She said and he walked back to the door.
"Yes, Lo?" He questioned.
"Come in." She said and he opened the door. She was sitting on the toilet cover with a towel wrapped around her body and her hair in a bun. Her makeup was off and and was the most beautiful thing in the world to him in that moment.
"Wassup." He asked and she smiled.
"I have this knot in my back and I was wondering if you could get it out for me." He nodded and they walked out to the beds and she passed him her favorite lotion. She laid down and showed him where the knot was and he moved the towel down and got to work. She could feel him getting more excited but she just ignored it. He heard a crack and then she sighed.
"Thank you, Marshall." She said and she started getting dressed for bed. They turned off all the lights and crawled into bed with each other. She wrapped her leg around him and put her bonnet on before wrapping her arms around his shoulders. They woke up to a noise outside their room. She turned over and saw that it was six the next morning there, so they had to start getting ready. She pulled her legs over the side and looked down in despair as she realized she had to leave bed. Marshall had already hopped up and went into the shower. He was saying old lines just to get his tongue ready for it.
She stood up finally and pulled off her pajamas and slid into some baggy jeans and a tube top, then she grabbed a jean jacket from her bag. Once he got dressed they headed out to meet Wendy in the lobby.
"How you feeling?" She asked and he sighed.
"Nervous." She pulled his arm back and he looked at her.
"You're Marshall Bruce Motherfuckin Mathers. You don't get nervous, you get encouraged. You can do this." She said and pulled his head down. She kissed him quickly and he looked at her. She could tell he got a new spark from that so she kissed him once more. They continued the walk and he hugged Wendy when they got to the lobby. They all got in the cab and Wendy caught him up on the plans for today. She also told Lo where the mall was in proximity to the venue if she got bored.
A Few Hours Later
Marshall rushed backstage and Lolita ran after him. He sat in the green room, his face red and his eyes were slammed closed.
"Lolita, I don't want to talk about it." He said and she frowned.
"Marshall, I-"
"Just leave it the fuck alone." He snapped looking at her and she sighed.
"Hey, are you Eminem?" This white boy said and he nodded.
"Yeah."
"Do you have a tape I can have?" He asked tip toeing around Marshall's anger. Marshall pulled his tape out of his hoodie's pocket and chucked it at the boy.
"Thanks. I'll be seeing you around." He said and left. Lolita was still holding tears back from his outburst so she ran into the bathroom. She wiped her eyes and ran some water on her face. She wiped her face once more and walked out.
"Are you ready to go?" He asked and she nodded. She started walking ahead of him and then he tugged at her jacket. She turned around and he kissed her with as much passion as he had put on that stage. An electric volt went through her heart and jolted her into the moment. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her once more just to feel something other than anger for the moment. It worked, she forgave him for his lapse of judgment and they walked to the taxi.
Hotel
As they entered the hotel they collapsed onto the bed. She pulled his shirt off and he pulled her tube top up and over her head. As they kissed more clothes were coming off. The kisses became like a passion fruit that neither wanted to stop devouring.
"Are you sure this is what you want?" He asked and she nodded. As he was pulling off her jeans he felt his phone ring and so for some reason, he answered it.
"Hi poppa." Hailie said over the phone. He walked into the bathroom to talk to his little girl. As he did that Lo felt the anger and rejection build up. She pulled her clothes back on and walked to the gym on the floor below. She ran on the treadmill for what felt like ten minutes but was truly a few hours. When she came back up her anger had disappeared and laid  sat on the bed, his head on a pillow but his eyes wide open.
"Lo, I'm sorry." He said and she sighed.
"Why don't you have sex with me?" She asked and he shook his head.
"You're not my girlfriend right now, we used to go out but then we stopped and I want to show you everything before I take away something that important." He said and she sighed.
"Why can't I be your girlfriend, Marshall? You're everything that I've ever wanted and here you are."
"I didn't know you wanted me like that, Lo. Is that really what you want?" He questioned and Lolita looked down and sighed before giving her answer.
"Yes, I want all of you." She said and he looked at her. He stood up and watched as she sat down in his spot. He went to her and got down on both knees.
"Will you be my girl?" He asked and she nodded. He placed a kiss on her forehead and then on her lips. She laid down and waited for him to return. When he did he just crawled into bed and wrapped his hand around her thigh.
"Marshall." She asked and he mumbled.
"Do you really want to be with me?" His eyes snapped open and he smiled.
"More than you'd ever know, goodnight Lolita." He said, planting one last kiss on her lips.
"Goodnight Marshall." She mumbled back.
