Lolita had been sleeping over at Marshall's for the past three days. Today she had to drop him off at the airport. She felt her heart flutter and drop as the time got closer. She looked at herself in the bathroom mirror. She was only in her underwear at the moment as she had just gotten out of the shower moments before. She examined her breathing and heard the knock on the door.
"Come in." Marshall opened the door and kissed her cheek.
"All you gotta throw on his some heels and you'd be perfect." He said causing her to laugh.
"I'm almost ready." She said. She bent down and grabbed her shirt and pants. She put them on and then put on her shoes.
He went through the list of stuff he needed with her.
"Okay so you have at least two pairs of clothes in there?" She asked
"Yes."
"Shoes."
"Yes, I only have one pair."
"Toothbrush, deodorant, toothpaste, and your EP?" She asked and he nodded.
"Did you pack your chargers and your favorite pictures of me and the girls?" She asked and he laughed.
"Yes, I absolutely did." He grinned and she nodded. She closed the bag and kissed his nose.
"You ready?"
"Yes." He said and smiled. He grabbed his bag and they walked out into the cold Michigan air.
She walked down to the car and got in the drivers seat. They started the drive and got to talking.
"Do you think that I can come see you?" She asked and he nodded.
"Of course." He said.
"Are you ready?" She asked.
"For what?"
"You're gonna accomplish your dreams, baby. Are you ready to?" She asked and he nodded.
"Always ready." He said and for the rest of the ride they listened to beats on his radio for him to write to. His mind was focused but his heart would flutter every time he looked at her. He couldn't really write when he was happy, only when he was content or angry. He watched as she shimmied in her seat and rocked to the beat. She allowed him to write in peace until this one beat came one.
"Marshall, I can be a rapper." She said and cleared her throat.
"I'd love to see you try." He said laughing.
"Alright watch." She breathed and then started.
"Marshall's a hater, I'll see you later
I like to watch porn with Sonny Bono in it
Ya dumb ho, I like to dream about the days I shared with M before he had a baby
Now they both drive me crazy
And I know what he means now when he says he's shady
I said Marshall's a hater, he used to be a waiter
Now the only thing he waits on his a call from Dr. Dre.
He's like a lawsuit, with no degree.
He's like a bootleg CD
He's like sex- hard to get and easy to keep.
He's like a pineapple sweet and foreign
He's like me but I ain't no hater- see ya later." She chuckled and he laughed just as hard.
"You think you're the next Eminem?" He asked and she laughed even harder. She pulled up to the airport and got a parking sticker. She pulled into a spot and they started to unload the car.
"Did he say when you should be back?" She asked and he shook his head.
"No, I need to ask you a favor." He said and she nodded.
"What's up?"
"Can you stay at my place on your off days?" He asked and she nodded.
"I will." She said and he kissed her sweetly.
"Alright come on baby." Grabbing her hand with his left hand and pulling with his right they walked into the airport.
"Marshall." She said and he looked at her.
"Yeah?"
"I'm gonna miss you a lot." She said and he smiled.
"When I get set up, I'll fly you out." He said and she smiled at his verbiage. He had more hope now that he was in the airport. He checked in his baggage and then she got a gate pass. They walked together to security gate. Once they got through they walked to his gate and sat there peacefully. They talked about old memories of high school and this boy Lo had talked to for a month back in high school. Soon it was time for him to board.
"Be safe baby." She said and he nodded.
"You too, Beautiful." He said. He kissed her several times and then hugged her tightly.
"Bye Marshall." She said as he got to the lady. She checked his pass and he waved goodbye to his girlfriend.
Lolita watched as the rest of the people got on the plane. She then watched as they backed the plane out and then watched it move down the runway.
She felt her eyes water as she walked towards the exits and to the parking lot. As she got in the car she let them fall. They poured out and onto her pants.
She pulled it together and drove back to his apartment. She climbed up the stairs and to the door. She unlocked it and threw the keys in the bowl. She closed the door and made her way into the room and laid in the bed. She could smell him all on the sheets. She felt the tears running down her face, they chase down each other and down onto her chin. She wipes her tears eyes and sniffles. She heard a phone ringing and sat up to pick it up. She grabbed it and laid back in bed.
"Hello?" She questioned. Her voice a little shaky but understandable.
"Hey, it's Kim." She felt the tears fill her eyes and she blinked hard to get it out.
"Hey, what's going on?" She asked and Kim sighed.
"Marshall, where is he?"
"He just left."
"Okay, can we try to work together while he's gone? He would watch Hailie when I had to work."
"I can do it. I'm off today and I get off at 3 everyday this week." She said sniffing, in her heart she hoped that if she could get into his daughter's heart then maybe he would see she was a good girl who just wanted him.
"Alright that's cool. I go in at 5 at night every night." Kim said and cleared her throat.
"Alright. I'll see you around." She said and Kim muffled out a noise and the women hung up.
Half A Day Later.
She was still in his bed, the covers on her nose and the pillow under her head. She could felt like he was there. She didn't know why she was treating the objects like he was dead but there was something comforting in smelling them. She heard the phone ring and she leaned over to pick it up.
"Yo, this is Lolita right?" Marshall's tired voice said over the phone. He had just landed and rushed to the nearest pay phone to call her. His bags in hand and a grin on his face as he put the quarters in and dialed.
"Hey Marshall." She said.
"Hey, I paid for three minutes."
"Your baby's mother called me. I'm watching your kid while you're there." She said and he chuckled.
"Oh yeah. I'm glad y'all could be nice to each other." His was moving his foot side to side and looking down as he talked to his love. He really just wanted to hear her voice before the meeting. He felt the love in her voice and found himself grinning.
"Marshall, I really miss you." She said and he could hear the sadness in her voice.
"I love you, don't cry baby." He said and he could hear her sniffle.
"I love you too." She said.
"One minute left." The operator said and Marshall sighed.
"Okay, I'll call you when I get to the hotel. Stop crying baby, just breathe. I'll fly you out as soon as I can. I'll try and get you to come with Kim and Hailie." Marshall said and Lolita breathed deeply.
"Okay baby." She said. He made a kiss noise and got one back.
"I love you a lot." He said quickly.
"I love you too Marshall." She said and they hung up.
