*Millicas POV

30 minutes earlier...

While I was on my way to Grandmom's study partly supported by the servant, maid-mode Mom ran into us and kindly asked the servant to leave me with her. She then took me to one of the residence's porches.

"Heard what happened, Milli," she began, slowly taking off her bonnet--the actual border between her twin personalities: as head of the maids and servants in our household, and a proper noblewoman. Right now, Okaa-sama was speaking in the second position.

"Where were you going?"

"To see Grandmom and Uncle. More like, I was gonna see Uncle, but since he's with her..."

"Why?"

"I fainted during training. He must be anxious."

"And why did you faint at all? It's completely not like you."

"Eh? U-umm... that is..."

She waited--but this time only for a moment.

"Has it got anything to do with your father?"

"Well..."

She edged closer and laid a hand on my head.

"O-Okaa-sama...? What are you doing, people might see us here!"

"Let them. Meantime, let's be honest. Was it your father?"

...

...

--Oh, crap.

So this was why she chose this place, huh. As if she was telling me, "Go ahead, talk to me about whatever it was that troubled you, but get over it soon or you might put yourself to shame."

Guh... as expected from my Okaa-sama. Unspoken lesson in manners again...

"Well, Millicas?"

"...Yes. It's about him. He left me again."

"This is not the first time, right?"

"It's just so... unfair! The other night he came and apologized, and the next morning, gone again... and didn't even leave anything!"
Don't cry now. Don't...

*tear flows...

"Millicas. That he was able to meet you at all was for him more than anything. You understood, right?"

"But..."

"Okay, now you're going to meet Grandmom and Sairaorg-sama, and I don't want them to see you like this. Why don't you just try and get over it, now. If and when your father next comes, I promise I'll get him to grant you anything you might want. Alright?"

I struggled to hold my tears in, and met her gaze. "...Anything?"

"You heard me."

That was how I managed to put on a normal appearance when I saw them.
