6. Intensity

Four weeks later on a Friday night, Shawn and Camila's arrangements had worked out very well. Every weekday, she'd take him back to her apartment and help Rio with his homework before making his dinner. Shawn would arrive at about seven and even though he told her not to, he always found a plate of food ready for him to heat up and eat. But Camila couldn't help it, she adored the pair. Rio was a sweetheart and Shawn was a great person, with an amazing personality and really handsome but she wouldn't admit that out loud.

During the time she spent with the pair as well, in the evenings when Rio would watch TV as Shawn ate his food, the two would converse about their lives and Camila had become very intrigued by him and even developed feelings for him. He just had such a strong effect on her.

She felt lucky to be able to be apart of their lives, Rio seemed to like her as well which was a benefit and she enjoyed her evenings with the pair.

But tonight was different, tonight it was 9:30 and she had heard no word from Shawn explaining where he was, if he was late, when he would be there. She had heard absolutely nothing. She had put Rio to bed an hour and half earlier, figuring that she couldn't be sure when he would show up and she didn't want to keep him up. So Rio was currently sleeping in her bed.

Camila was sitting on her sofa, an episode of the Simpsons playing on her TV as she held her phone texting Shawn, asking where he was. But no answer. She had called him on multiple numbers, his mobile number, his home number, she even tried his work number but still she received no reply.

Rio too had been worried where his father was because even though his father was often late, he'd never been later than eight o'clock. So naturally when the clock reached eight and thee was no sign of his father he began to get anxious. He was already down to one parent he didn't want to lose another one.

So Camila did what she could, she tried to distract the boy with games and music but nothing could console the boy. So Camila hugged him gently and soothed Rio as if she were his mother and she enjoyed it. She liked being there for the boy, but if Shawn turned around and said she couldn't look after him anymore, she would accept it. He was the father, she was just his teacher.

After a bit, he started getting tired and Camila put him to bed before making her way to the sofa. She just hoped Shawn showed up soon.

A knock sounded at her door and she rushed forward and opened the door, hoping to find Shawn but was greeted by the sight of a rather horrible woman. Emily Wilson. Camila grimaced. "What do you want?" The woman attempted to step into the apartment but Camila pushed back. "I didn't invite you in. Don't think you can get in, when you're not wanted."

Emily glared at Camila, "I'm here to collect Rio." Camila scoffed. "And why is that?" "Shawn texted me to keep him at my apartment." Camila rolled her eyes. "You live down the hall, you and I both know he didn't tell you to do that. You've just been watching the whole time instead of caring for your own child." The woman gasped appalled at Camila's words. "I'm taking Rio with me." "No you're not. Have a nice time with your child." And she slammed the door in her face.

The woman continued to slam her fist against the door, claiming that it was illegal to hold a child against the parents wishes, but Camila didn't give in. She knew that Shawn had no interest in Emily nor did he want her in charge of his child. The woman was a burden in his life and she was quickly becoming one in Camila's life.

Then the banging stopped and Camila presumed she walked away, when she heard a deep voice speak outside her door. "What are you doing?" Camila furrowed her brow and rose to her tiptoes, to look through her tiptoes to find Shawn looking down at Emily.

She quickly opened the door and the two heads turned towards her. "Hey Camila, what's going on?" Shawn asked. "Emily showed up demanding I hand Rio over to her because you said she should take him." Shawn shook his head. "I never said that." Emily turned to leave but Shawn stopped her. "You're not leaving yet."
