"Ahem," Leah's voice crackled over the microphone.
The vampire paused.
"I'm going to sing a song." I couldn't see her through the crowd, but when I found her, I would kiss her.
"May I cut in?" the violinist shoved the vampire aside, took my hand, and we waltzed.
"It took you long enough." I said, smiling up at him.
He scowled. "You're a fool."
"And you're magnificent."
His grip on my waist tightened for a moment. His eyes went dark behind his demon mask. Leaning forward, I shivered when his lips brushed my ear. "And you're mortal. Oh so mortal."
Touchy, touchy. I thought blocking access to my thoughts from anyone but him.
He took the bait. Idiot. Dipping me down, he asked, Were you bit?
You do care!
Why are you so... so.... He growled.
Memories of a ball similar to this one sent shivers of heartache up my spine and stabbed my cold heart. Standing on my tip-toes, I pressed my lips against his cheek. I know it won't change anything, but I'm sorry. I was selfish and I ruined you.
He quivered and, for once, I didn't relish in my power. I was ruined long before we met. You just patched me up to rip the bandage off.
