To Jessie, for engaging a total stranger in conversation and thus convincing me to return to writing.
On that day my whole life changed,
All my views were rearranged.
The words sprung up like Summer flowers,
Trapping me within their powers;
Tumbling me into the stream,
Composed of every wishful dream.
Sending me into the soul,
Of worlds abandoned long ago.
Sinking deep into the Earth;
Spiralling high over unknown turf.
Standing on the mountain tops,
Spread my wings and enjoy the drop.
Plunging, falling, no time to stop,
Too late to say “I’d better not…”
And suddenly, all in a rush,
I sit here staring at my brush.
