What Once Was

A poem I wrote when I was younger and wiser.

Once they lived everywhere,

Earth, air and sea.

Once they caught in your hair,

Buzzing busily.

Once they were everywhere,

Swaying peacefully.

Once they flew in the air,

Magnificently free.

Once they grew everywhere,

On ground, wall and tree.

Once, in that grey space there,

I stood happily.

Now, looking back I see,

Once will never be.
