❝I wanna tell you how
how I feel but I'm scared
of being hurt again, scared
of you not feeling the same
and scared of falling harder.❞

❝Oh... Hi...❞
Scarlett's POV
Rolling over in my sheets, I see my brother lying next to me with a smile on his face. A smile plays on my lips.
"Aw come on, I can see that smile coming!" Paul chuckled and suddenly goes quiet. "How you feeling?"
"Like I just swallowed a baby elephant..." I slowly sit up.
"No, really. How are you?" Staring down at my baby bump, I sighed.
"Better..."
"But not enough?" He says and I shake my head subtly. "I have an idea-"
"Is it a Pablo plan?" Paul gasps.
"I thought you loved those!" He cries out.
"Well I did, until the time we got caught sneaking out by Mom, remember." Paul smirked.
"You said it was clear!"
"She came out of nowhere." I bit my lip. "Anyway, go on..." Taking a deep breath, he continued.
"It's just hit seven. How about I drop the kids off, do some shopping and then pick them kids back up?" I shake my head.
"Paul, seriously. I can't keep letting you-"
"Ah, ah, ah." He shook his finger at me. "For my heavily pregnant sis, always." I smiled. "You'll get some quiet anyway."
"You never break peace round here." He looked away and folded his arms.
"Well, I kind of also have a date..." I slap him. "Ow!"
"With who?" I squealed.
"I won't bring her round till she warms up. But she might be good. Have to train her."
"Women aren't dogs Paul." I remark.
"I was just trying to lighten the mood! Anyhow, I'll get the girls up." He springs to his feet. "Sleep, okay. Doctors orders." Paul walks towards the door. "Love ya sis." He closes the door and I pull the sheets over my head, falling back to sleep.
But, a few hours later I woke up.
Like my body knew I should have woken up, because as soon as I walked down the stairs, the door bell rang.
Licking my lips, I reach for the door handle and peer my head round the door.
And in front of me, stood Benedict with a small smile on his face.
"Hi..." Every bone in my body was telling me to slam the door but, I didn't-- instead I let the door open and arch my hands onto my back. "You look rough..."
"... Well, I am pregnant." His smile widens.
"Can I come in?" After a moment, I nod and I walk into the living room. Benedict closed the door behind him and followed me inside. "Is it just you here?" I nod.
"Girls are at school and Paul..." I ease myself onto the sofa. "... He's got a date." Benedict scoffs.
"A date? Wow... Time has definitely changed." I nod and Benedict sits besides me, fiddling with his ring.
"Katherine back?" I asked him.
"Uh, no. She's... Not back for a couple more days. Her work was extended..." He turned towards me. "I wanted to ask you... What did you mean yesterday? About how she'd take them away?" My eyes widened and I looked away.
I forgot I said that.
"It's nothing."
"Scarlett... You always say things with a point. Please, what is really wrong?" I turn to face him again and he looked at me.
Those soft, blue eyes, looked at me.
"... Katherine... She... kind of threatened the kids." I whisper.
"What?! No!" I hushed him.
"Stop. Keep your voice down." He grabbed hold of my hand.
"What were her exact words?" My voice trembled. "Hey... she's not here... Tell me..."
"She... would... cart them off to boarding school and I'd never see them again. We'd never see them." He leaned back.
"God..." I moved closer to him, fiddling with me fingers.
"B-but, you won't tell her I said that, w-will you bec-"
"No, no! Course I won't. I'll sort it though." I nod. "How's the baby?" I place my hand on my bump and looked down.
"It's fine... Keeping me up at night." He laughed.
"Like the girls did?"
"This feels... different. I'm not craving pickles, more... apples." I looked up at him, Benedict frowning.
"Apples?"
"Yeah. Apples." Then, he didn't say anything.
"Why didn't you tell me Scarlett..." I exhale deeply.
"I just... couldn't face you. We're divorced... Please... I... I can't explain myself." I refrain from you eye contact and Benedict gets up. "Just... don't tell K-Katherine you came. And... I think we shouldn't see each other anymore. I'll keep dropping the kids but..."
"I understand." I hear his footsteps move further away, until the front door shut and the house was silent again.
