❝I... left. I left her. Or she left me...❞

Scarlett's POV

"Ben I... what?" I struggle to get my words out. But before I could carry on, I was interrupted by Christina and Ella.

"Daddy!" They both shouted out and ran past me, hugging Benedict.

"Here are my girls!" Benedict picked up Ella and stroked Christina's hair.

"Is Daddy staying?" Ella asked me and I froze. My ex husband spending the night at my home? I wanted my children to be happy, so I thought twice before blurting out something that would hurt them.

"... S-sure. Yeah." Benedict smiled at me and I arched my arms onto my back. "Lucy, could you take... his bags inside please?" Nodding, Lucy picked them up.

However, she was stopped, since another man's voice yelled.

"No, no, no, no! Did I mention, no!" Paul snatched the bags from Lucy. "Girls, you need to sit down. I'll take these..." Paul looked into my eyes, searching for an answer.

"... Take them into the living room." I tell him, and he simpers.

Benedict takes the girls into the living room with him and I rub my forehead.

I then felt someone hold my hand.

"Hey..." I turn my head. "How are you doing?" Lucy gave me a comforting smile.

"Why did you bring him here?" I asked.

"Look, I'm sorry, but... just talk to him. For me? Please?" She fluttered her eyes and I sighed.

"Fine..." Pulling my hand out of hers, I make my way into the living room, where I hear the girls giggling with Benedict.

Immediately, he stares at me. He doesn't take my eyes off of me.

Out stare contest is broken as Paul claps his hands.

"Me and Luce are going out! Luce, grab your coat." Paul walks up to me, kissing my cheek and pulls me into a hug. He whispers into my ear. "You doing to be okay?" I nod and wrap my arms around him.

He then pulls away and I smile lightly.

"I'm ready!" Lucy sings. Paul chuckles and slowly makes his way out, saying his goodbyes.

"Bye kids! See ya later Ben!" We all hear the door close and the house was silent.

But knowing the kids, they broke it.

"Daddy, can we make cookies together?" Christina ask pulling his arm. Taking a deep breath, Benedict looked at me.

"You'll have to ask Mom." All eyes were on me and I rubbed my baby bump.

"Sure. But, I'm not cleaning up." I glare at the girls.

"Yay!" Ella jumped and yanked Benedict off the sofa and into the kitchen.

I followed them and watched as they had smiles on their faces.

As they had fun. With their father.

And it had been a while since I had seen those smiles on their faces. Teaming with joy.

And you know what? It made me smile too.

A messy hour later, the girls and Benedict had made their cookies-- decorations and all.

And of course, I was busy cleaning up their mess in the kitchen.

I then hear footsteps, and I look up, Benedict leaning on the counter with a smile.

"Need some help?" Licking my lips, I reach into the draw and give him a cloth.

"I would never say no." Smiling, I carry on cleaning and scoop up the flour from the worktop, putting it in the bin.

As soon as I finished cleaning, it was time for me to cook dinner and I couldn't shake Benedict off me.

But, I didn't complain. I was neither happy nor irritated.

I began to cut some onions, although, I was forced to stop, since Benedict put his hand onto mine.

"Let me..." I put the knife onto the chopping board and step back. He began slicing the onions and I made conversation.

"Why are you here Ben?" He slows down.

"I wanted to see the kids." Shaking my head, I exhale deeply.

"With your bags?" I scoff.

Then, I hear the knife being placed onto the board and he twirled round to me.

"I spoke with Katherine." My heart skipped a beat.

"What?!" I scream.

"No, no! It's fine. Listen..." Benedict placed his arms onto my shoulders. "I hated what she did to you. So I left. But, the house, it's under her name." I gasp. "So, I'm kind of, sort of... homeless."

"Oh my God... This is all my fault..."

"It's really not. It was my choice and my choice alone to tell her. I just wanted you and... the kids to be protected..." I look at the floor and Benedict pulls my face up to look at me. "Don't blame yourself..."

"Yes." I blurt out. "You can stay..." Benedict looked shocked. But a good shocked. "The kids love it when you're here so..." Benedict grabs my hand.

"Thank you..." My heart best quickens and I glide my tongue across my lips.

He was just an inch away from my face and we stared at each other. It was like we were in our own world.

Together.

And I missed it. Just a little bit.
