❝I... still can't believe it...❞
Scarlett's POV
I hear ruffling of the sheets beside me and turn my head to the left.
Benedict was getting out of bed. He paused and ran his fingers through his hair. I placed my hand onto his back.
"Morning..." He turns towards me and smiles.
"Morning..." Leaning towards me, he pecks my cheek. "Sleep well?" He asks and I frown.
"You really think I did?" Chuckling, he sighs and stands up.
"Sorry, stupid question."
I yawn.
"What time is it?" Reaching for his watched, he answers my question before putting it on.
"It's... Nearly eleven." I gasp. "What?"
"Shite... I... the girls have their ballet lesson today!" Benedict rushes to my side of the bed and holds my hand.
"Hey..." He says softly. "... Don't panic. You rest and I'll drop them off." Squeezing his hand, I simper.
"Thank you... I love you..."
"I love you too. Now. Rest." I licked my lips and pulled the duvet up.
"Yes, Doctor." Making his way to the door, he leaves the room and I sighed, looking down at my baby bump. "Bed rest once again. Until later... I can't wait to see that little heart beat on the minister again." I whispered and then closed my eyes, drifting off to sleep.
And a while later, I was woken up by Benedict shaking me lightly.
"Scarlett, darling. Baby..." Slowly opening my eyes, I groaned.
"Ergh... Time?"
"We have about an hour till your scan you know." I immediately was full of adrenaline and Benedict held my hands, helping me up.
"I better get ready!" Benedict cupped my face in his hands.
"Hey, calm down. I made you breakfast, eat and then get ready." He kissed me and pulled me into the kitchen, where he made me toast, egg and beans, with a cup of orange juice.
"Thank you honey." I sit down on a chair and begin munching.
But, my scan came quicker than I thought.
And, within a blink of an eye, I was in the waiting room.
I was... shaking.
"Hey... You okay?" Benedict asked as I fiddled with my fingers.
"I just can't... believe it. Back in here again, with not long to go... Do you remember that for Chrissy, we left the gender till she was born?" I see his face light up.
"She was so beautiful..."
I look away. "You sure you're okay?" I nod and bit my lip.
"Ms Scarlett Collins?" I held my baby bump as I got up and followed the Doctor into the scanning room.
However, my eyes started to fill with tears. Things I wanted to forget started to flood back. The times I had a miscarriage or a unpleasant scare of my pregnancy.
Laying down, I stared at the ceiling. I was barely paying attention.
"So, how far along are you?" I didn't answer, so Benedict did for me.
"Six months."
"How has it been for you Ms Collins?" The doctor asked, but I took a deep breath, Benedict placing his hand into my shoulder.
"Scar? Doctor... could you... give us a minute?" My breath was shaking. "Honey... " I looked at Benedict. "Hey... What's wrong?"
"I don't know... I... I guess I keep thinking about you... and that women and... Everything else!" I cry out.
"You know that I would never-"
"I know!" I inhale heavily. "I'm scared... You know how many times we tried to-"
"I know... Scar, I know. It won't happen. I'm here. Whatever happens, this baby will be beautiful. He, will be beautiful. And I'm right here." He wipes my tears with his thumb and I wrap my arms around him.
Then, we hear a knock on the door. We separate.
I nod my head. "Come in Doctor."
"Are you two okay?" I took a deep breath.
"Y-yes."
