Chapter 4: Ice cool

“No. Not a chance”, he said without even having the decency to face me.

What? He didn’t think it over yet. I think.

“Please! It’s a miracle I even found this!” I pushed on.

He sighed in his chair, as he removed his square rimmed glasses. Well those were new, I thought to myself. Rubbing his temples, he slowly returned his attention towards me. A tired, emotionless expression was hanging onto his face as he strained to keep his patience.

“As I said before, it’s impossible for you to even get a part so early in your non-existent career. Actors spend years on top of years training just to prepare for that one audition that might change their lives’, he rambled on.

He was right, but I couldn’t risk the chance that I might get casted either. After an uneventful week in high school, I finally returned to the exceptional A.A. program just to get my dreams rejected. Here I am practically begging on my knees to get the man-she, who’s name is actually Mr. Hollis, to help me get the role of Bree Yen.

Everyone else was practicing their own particular area of performance, while I’m actually trying to get somewhere. On the first day coming here, I was a bit confused since this was an Advance Acting program, and there’s people wanting to be singers, dancers, and ventriloquists and other things that don’t relate to acting. Then I realized we were in a community college storage closet.

Please, I need this!", I prodded.

He leaned onto his chair some more and actually started thinking about it. Minutes passed without either of us moving from our positions. Finally, after many forceful glares, his reluctant face slowly changed into a confused one.

"Do you really want this?” he asked unsurely.

"No", I replied in a deadpanned voice.

He gave me a warning look, and grabbed the papers I was holding onto with much more force than needed.

He's gonna help me! I felt the excitement explode within my digestive area. I was sure he’d agree to help me, yet the more he read the papers, the more his frown grew. His eyes flicked around and finally stopped when he finished reading.

I felt sick, what could possibly be wrong? I thought I had pretty good freaking chance.

"Well? What do you think?", I asked. I tapped my fingers nervously onto his desk and waited for an answer.

"Mimi...", he started ," you do realize that this is Gander Productions you're trying to impress?"

The disbelief in his voice crushed all of the hope I produced earlier.

"So? Just because they're some hot shots in the movie industry doesn’t mean I can’t try!", I replied angrily.

I need to calm down. This acting business has gotten me antsy.

"No, that's not it, but have you read the actual description of Bree?", he said.

Of course I have. She was just some friend of the main character. It wouldn't be that hard portraying a minor supporting character.

"Yeah, she's one of those random friends right? I asked.

"No, she has a pretty big part in this movie. I've heard about this movie Mimi, and it's going to be big. This isn't some amateur parade where you can just waltz in and take over". Putting on his glasses, he immediately turned to his gigantic computer and started to type rapidly.

"Read this right here". He pointed towards the scratchy screen and I saw the description of Bree. This time in full detail.
