The energy from the surrounding crowd became more and more contagious as the concert went on. I had just started listening to this band today and yet here I was jumping around like an idiot to a song called Lethargy and screaming "Anybody else" at the top of my lungs. Dan kept catching my eye and smiling at me. Or maybe just smiling in my general direction honestly cause the guy was so interactive with the audience it was kind of hard to tell exactly who his attention was directed at. Regardless of that though I was completely enthralled with him as a performer. He radiated with the excitement and adrenaline from the crowd around him. My affection was growing more and more with every passing second. Especially during Blame. Angry Dan was a whole new level of hot and it was not something I could have ever prepared myself for. Nor was seeing him literally scream into his mic towards the end of Fake It. That was all sorts of not okay. A few songs after that I immediately recognized the beginning of Glory from when I had attempted to listen to it earlier. The exact moment Dan started singing I was immediately transported somewhere else. I don't know if it was the lyrics or the music or the visuals on stage or some sort of combination of all three, but this song was really resonating with me for some reason. Dan sang, "You make me laugh until I die. Can you think of any better way to choke?", and I legitimately got chills. What a lyric. Wow. This song was so hauntingly beautiful and I just could not get over it. My eyes actually welled up with tears when Dan got to the bridge. His voice was so gorgeous and angelic and I honestly could have died right there on the spot. The song ended and I was left feeling like I'd just had an out of body experience.
Four songs later, I stood next to two of my best friends finally understanding what Arabella meant when she talked about post concert depression. Bastille had been gone for not even two minutes but I already missed them so much. People were starting to disperse all around us, but I stayed exactly where I was, allowing the past two hours to just sink in.
"You think you're going to want to move from that spot anytime soon?" Arabella queried, interrupting my post concert daze.
I laughed nervously, "Yeah, sorry I'm just so blown away. That was such an amazing concert."
"I would say I told you so, but I'm pretty sure Dan Smith just did that for me." Arabella quipped back.
"Yeah he seemed to be pretty distracted by you." Niall added, both of them clearly enjoying getting a rise out of me.
"Oh please. He's this famous guy and I'm just a journalism student who happened to be a familiar face in the crowd." I retorted as I shoved my camera back in my bag.
"Seemed like more than that to me Autumn. Anyway we're gonna go get in line for merch and then try to see if we can meet the band if you want to come?" my best friend offered.
I thought back to what Dan had said about wanting me to stay after, but of course I wasn't going to say anything about that to these two brats.
"Sure, I'll come with and get a tee shirt or something." I said simply, following them as they started walking towards the exit.
Turned out we weren't the only ones who had waited until after the concert to buy souvenirs. The line of people seemed to go on forever, but Niall, Arabella, and I eventually found the end and slipped into the mass of people. It was obvious that we were going to be waiting for a while so I pulled out my camera and started looking through my pictures from the concert. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I had more than enough good ones to accompany my article. Every time I came across a picture that was just Dan I found myself lingering and zooming in and out for a ridiculous amount of time. This man had no bad angles. Like what the hell?! It just wasn't fair... I was almost at the merch table now. I guess looking at pictures of a beautiful British man for an hour really made the time fly by. I picked out the hoodie and tee shirt I wanted, and then stood off to the side of the table to wait for my friends. I swear Arabella bought like one of everything cause her arms were full of crap as she made her way over to where I was standing.
