monday
once you finally arrived at the cafeteria, you looked for a seat where you could sit comfortably, meaning far away from everyone else. you and alec typically preferred sitting alone together since it's mostly just been the two of you throughout your whole lives. this meant you didn't often get into all the annoying drama typical high schoolers do. some may say its a little boring but it wasn't your fault you were friends with the quiet kid!
"i'll go get our food, you take care of the table and make sure no one sits here, okay?"
you quickly nodded as he went to get your dull school lunches. you took this time to take in and analyze the schools' scenery. it was your typical lunch room; lunch ladies served the students stale bread and mashed potatoes. the long line of kids who continuously short-cut each other, and the lunch tables scattered randomly throughout the room.
taking you out of your daze was a tall girl with dark blue hair, and eyes similar to the water. she wore a plaid shirt over her white tee, and a pair of jeans. next to her was a girl with golden eyes and ombre brown hair. her outfit consisted of a black blazer, as she also wore a white shirt underneath it, along with a pretty skirt and some knee high socks.
"hi! you look lonely; want some company?" the blue haired girl started. she took a seat across from you whilst her friend sat next to her.
"i'm actually waiting for a friend, but you're more than welcome to join us." you gave them a warm smile to reassure them that they weren't a bother. they smiled back and began eating their food, giving a brief introduction not really worth talking about. they mentioned their silly adventures of how they snuck into a famous persons' van and made tons of money selling her hair brush. you were impressed to say the least.
not long after, alec came back with the plates. as soon as he sat down though, his expressionless demeanor faded; his face went completely pale at the sight of the girls whom sat across from you. the girl with blue hair had nearly the same expression, except she had a tint of anger in her eyes, almost as if he had murdered her pet or something.
"hey alec, you're back!" you exclaimed, opening the wrapper in which the forks and napkins were set in. unfortunately, you opened them a little to aggressively, which made one of your forks fall to the ground.
guess i'm eating with a spoon. you mentally facepalmed.
he quickly glanced at you and sat down hesitantly.
"alright what's going on between you two?" the girl with brown hair asked, crossing her arms as her eyes darted between the two, quiet teens.
"yeah, what's with the sudden tension?" you proceeded, tilting your head to the side, also curious as to what was going on.
the two glanced at each other, nervously turning their heads as soon as they made eye contact. you assumed they had something going on, perhaps some sort of crush? for some reason, the thought of alec having a crush on someone made you feel uneasy. besides, the girl seemed mad so there was no way it had to do with romance. this was oddly relieving for you.
funneh wasn't sure if she wanted to rant to you, especially with the red haired boy sitting right in front of her. not to mention you seemed pretty close, so how could she say anything bad about him?
"we just met already, that's all." alec stated, unamused with the faces funneh was making while she thought about whether she wanted to speak up or not. his features were back to normal, and he picked his mashed potatoes with a fork, losing his appetite.
she nodded as she grabbed her milk, drinking away her dehydration with her shaky hands.
the rest of the lunch period passed quite slowly. the only time anyone would talk was when you'd speak up, in which alec would be the one to reply. that, or the occasional whispers amongst gold and funneh, you were sure they weren't saying anything bad about you though. you just didn't get that mean girl energy from them.
the bell finally rung and while alec quickly sped off, you exchanged numbers with the girls. what was wrong with expanding your friend group anyways?
you finally caught up to alec whom was waiting for you by the door. "are you gonna explain what happened back there?" you asked, crossing your arms as you continued walking alongside alec.
he raised a brow. "back where? what are you talking about?"
you gave him an unamused look, waiting for him to give you a valid answer.
he sighed, looking down at the ground avoiding eye contact. "i was kinda an ass to her." he replied, putting his hands in his pockets as a way of coping with the tension.
"of course you were." you were kind of disappointed in him, but you couldn't say you were surprised. alec's never been the kind of person to warm up to someone at first sight. thankfully for you, you met him when you were young so it wasn't that hard to befriend him.
"you know i'm going to make you apologize and make it up to her right?" you stretched your arms as you looked over at him, a slight grin on your face.
he rolled his eyes, not expecting any less from you. "what do you want me to do!" he complained, frantically waving his arms in the air.
shrugging, you proceeded to your next class, leaving alec alone in with his thoughts.
