After Vi had returned to her room, and washed out her mouth, she lay in the bed thinking how weird this school was. Suddenly, she heard a voice that stormed through her thoughts. Carefull. Lucy said. There's bugs in the bed. Ewww! Vi shouted, jumping out of bed. Why don't they get rid of them or something? Well, Lucy answered. They sorta think of them as midnight snacks. Ewwwwwww! Vi screeched. Lucy laughed. So how long have you been here? Vi asked Lucy. Since I was two. Lucy answered. And I'm thirteen now. Wow. Vi said. So, why are you mad? They keep me here against my will. Lucy told Vi. Oh. Vi answered, stunned. Yeah. Lucy said. I tried to run away when I was six, but they got, like, magical boundaries or something. Vi stared at her. That's terrible! She said. Yeah. Lucy laughed bitterly. But they don't care. As soon as you see a chance to run away, take it. Vi nodded silently. Well, gotta get to sleep. Lucy turned over with her face to the wall and presently, started softly snoring. Vi say in bed thinking. Maybe this isn't such a cool place after all. She thought. After an hour, Vi went to sleep, but started dreaming things like giant bugs biting her, and then huge teeth chomping them back. She dreamed that a vamp woman was standing there laughing as Vi was dragged off to some prison, while the rain fell and lightning flashed. All night long, Vi had terrible dreams. She woke up a million times that night, and each time when she went back to sleep, she was afraid shed never wake up.
