Brynn is a young Ranger from the North. She has no family, no friends, and no home to call her own. But that all changes when Gandalf asks her to come on an Adventure, as a bodyguard for the Hobbit Bilbo Baggins of the Shire.
But Brynn is no ordinary Ranger: she is a result of an affair between her grandfather, a proud and valiant Dwarf: Benard Ironfist, and her grandmother Andarian of Mirkwood. Two groups of people who are not supposed to be friends, let alone lovers.
Brynn has lived her twenty-four years on her own, traveling from place to place, but never staying one place very long. She is a tough battle-maiden with many secrets and few friends.
Now under the weary eye of Gandalf, Brynn must learn to adapt to her new surroundings and her unlikely attraction to her Companion, the Dwarf Kili. But even more importantly, Brynn must discover who she is and what her role is on this Unexpected Adventure.
