You can’t fix anyone. I’ve learned this the hard way. Dad went on a business trip. He’s been gone for more nights than I can count. This seemed to be one of the results to Mom leaving him. He’s trying though. I guess I’ll give him that. On top of this, Your-All-American-Girl (or so I like to call her) is being drawn into a trap. I care for the girl but her naïve-ness is what always gets the best of her. She sees the good in everyone, even though there isn’t any good left.
Aiden drew his brows together as he turned the page of the diary and began to read again.
Gray has done it again. I’m sick and tired of covering for him because I know he wouldn’t do the same. How could a guy like him get everyone to trust him so easily? It’s his looks, I assumed. But now I’m realizing that it’s his cunning and manipulative abilities. He’s good at that.
The sound of the door bell ringing echoed throughout the house. He sighed and stood from the rocking chair, shuffling over to the front door. Swinging the door open, he came face to face with Nate. “Hey,” he said weakly.
“Hey!” Nate exclaimed, throwing his hands on Aiden’s shoulders. “What, you just disappear now? You don’t say hi anymore.”
Aiden leaned against the door frame. “I’ve been writing.”
Nate nodded slowly and let his eyes roam the interior of the house. “You’re all unpacked?”
“Somewhat,” Aiden opened the door wider to allow him to enter. “You want a beer or anything?”
Nate trailed behind him. “Yeah man.”
Aiden strode into the narrow hallway near the stairs and walked into the kitchen. “What brings you here?” he asked as he pulled out two bottles of Heineken from the fridge.
“That party I talked to you about is tonight.” Nate propped himself up against the wall. “Are you in?”
The party had completely slipped Aiden’s mind. He had been so busy reading Jessica’s diary that he hadn’t gotten time to focus on anything else. He hadn’t talked to Jessica in two days now. He felt that she was purposely avoiding him, but he didn’t know why. “Oh, the party…” his words trailed off, “I forgot.”
“You’re going,” Nate pressed. “You need to get laid.”
Aiden smiled at him as he handed him the beer. “I don’t need to get laid, actually. And I’m sort of seeing Vanessa.”
“Vanessa?” Nate questioned, while quirking a brow.
Aiden nodded in response.
“Shit!” Nate joked, cupping his hand over his mouth. “She’s my girl and everything, but a girlfriend? I don’t know.”
“It’s not too serious,” he replied dully.
“She’ll be at the party,” Nate noted, “so if you want to make your girl happy, then you’ll be there.”
“Okay.” Aiden gave into the pressure. He would regret this later, which he knew. “Where is it?”
Nate sucked in a breath and tapped his beer nervously. “About that…it’s here….”
