Amber slowly turned as her heart beat wildly; she was bracing herself for the worst. It was Davis who had spoken, she was so angry she slammed the door and gave him a slap to the right cheek. "What the hell Davis?" she spat out furiously. Davis frowned heavily, he had only planned on paying Amber back in her coin but here she was overreacting. "It was just a joke" he said and walked towards his room.
Amber took one long last look at the door and went to her room which was in the opposite direction of the attic. As she settled in to sleep, the cold seeped in from outside and she got up and shut the windows. At midnight, Amber suddenly woke up. She had heard a window shatter. She stayed in bed and listened for more sounds but didn't hear any. Her door was ajar. She was trying to remember if she left it open but she was sure she left it closed. A shadow fell across the passage. "Who's there? Davis?" Amber called out. Nobody answered. She got up slowly and walked towards the door and as she got close to it, she saw the shadow.
It was human from head to waist and from it's waist down had a ghost tail just like in the cartoons. It's eyes were white and it seemed translucent. It had on a black cloak that dangled around it's ghostly tail. It all seemed like a funny cartoon until it began to speak. "I am Michael Everlove. I own this house. Tell your family to leave my house". Amber froze in fear for a couple of seconds when her eyes connected with it's dead ones and then she began screaming."GHOO...GOO... GHOOOSSSTTT". Gabriel heard her voice, quickly got off his bed and took his handy baton from his closet. He ran towards Amber's room and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw the figure floating. He tried to convince himself it wasn't real. "It can't be, ghosts don't exist" he said to himself. The ghost suddenly appeared in front of him and a strong wind pushed him backwards into the passage wall close to the stairs. It spoke again. "The next time you see me, ONE of you will die" then it vanished into thin air. Amber ran to her dad and hugged him and they waited for the chills to pass.
When they were calm, they decided they wouldn't tell Barbara and Davis about their encounter with Michael Everlove until they've gotten information about what was happening. In the morning, after breakfast, they told Barbara and Davis they were going on a father-daughter outing but went into the town's market to look for the old man, Hampton Fire. He was now the only one who could tell them about the ghost of Michael Everlove.
