Cali's POV

I stirred awake to the chilly October air and shivered as I reached down to grab my blanket. I then realized that I was sleeping in a lot, in Tulsa Oklahoma. Fantastic. I sat up and sitting at the end of the seat was Johnny, the kid that was getting beaten on last night. When did he manage to get up here? Why?

I shifted around, suddenly uncomfortable on this makeshift of a bed. Johnny must've heard me moved around so much because he awoke a few moments later. "H-Hey. I..I'm real sorry, my seat busted last night and you were cold so I threw a blanket on ya' and sit at the end of the seat." Johnny looked down and had a long look on his face.

"Oh I don't mind. Back where I came from most guys would try to do more than just sit at the end of my bed. I appreciate you covering me. That was real sweet." I smiled to let Johnny know that I wasn't mad. He seemed like a little puppy. Seeing him sad made me want to make him feel better.

"So tell me about yourself. You seem new and mysterious." Johnny turned his body to face me. I swear if there was popcorn he'd be shoveling in his mouth as I spoke.

"Well I'm new. Just got to Tulsa from New York yesterday as a matter of fact. I'm suppose to stay with my brother but we got into a fight and that's why I'm out on the streets."

"Why did you come to Tulsa?" Johnny looked totally invested in what I had to say. He reminded me of Lucas, always willingly to listen about my shitty ass life.

"My parents died so since I'm only sixteen I have to live with my brother until I can move out." When I spoke those words I realized how serious my situation was.

"I'm really sorry 'bout that." Johnny had pity in his eyes, but they looked understanding.

"Don't be, they were shitty parents. They abused me after my brother left and constantly got drunk. I've basically been living on the streets of New York since I was thirteen. I've learned my way around a fight and that's why I decided to help you out. Ya know I should probably get going. My brother's already worried sick." I stood up and grabbed my backpack, slinging it over my shoulder.

"Well thank you again... for helping me out last night. Like I said, I owe you." Johnny follows my same manner and stands up, handing me my jacket that must've fallen out of my bag in the middle of the night.

"Thank you. And trust me, I won't let you forget it." I start walking out of the lot and turn around to see Johnny watching me leave. "See ya around Johnny."

"See ya around California." And with that Johnny is out of sight as I start heading towards the direction Dally and I once were hoping that he is still there. I don't really know my way around this small town yet, but I'm sure that the smell of alcohol can lead me to the bar. The morning air was warm for October and the sky was changing from pink and orange to the usual blue. I had my hands in my sweatshirt pocket that I threw on last night to keep me warm. I continued to walk down the sidewalk passing people along the way.
