Cali's POV
The smell of grease and day old popcorn was overwhelming as I walked into the DX station. Eventually I got used to it. Once Soda opened the door, he started to explain to me what I needed to do.
"Okay, so how much do you know about cars?" He asks grabbing two full bottles of water from a cooler behind the counter. He tosses me one and twists off his lid, taking a big drink.
"I actually know a lot about cars." I state taking a sip from the bottle.
"Really?"
"Yes really. In New York I had a job at a car repair shop and I was one of the top employees. Why do you seem so surprised?" I squint my eyes and Soda and he slightly chuckles.
"The girls around here won't even go near cars unless their boyfriend is in a drag race." He takes another sip and walks from out behind the counter.
"You guys have drag races here?" My eyes lit up and I got a little excited. Soda opens a door with an "Employees Only" sign and walks in. I follow behind him as he walks over to a closet.
"Of course we have drag races. In fact, Dally is one of the best racers in town. Did you not have drag racing in New York?" He asks while grabbing a shirt and holding it up to me. He shakes his head and reaches in for a smaller one.
"No, there was absolutely no space to race cars anywhere in New York." I say reaching into the closet and grabbing my size shirt. Soda laughs and closes the closet. We walk out of the room and back into the little shop of the gas station.
"Okay so Steve is already in the back working on a car. I keep telling him there is no use because it won't work but he is determined to fix it. You can either hang out in the back with him or you can work the front counter if you want." I could tell he wanted me to work the front counter because that's where he was.
"You never told me I had to work." I stammer and his face falls.
"Well- I mean... you don't have to work if you don't want to I was just asking if you did because-" I start laughing and Soda gives me a puzzled look.
"Look Carbonated, I'm just messing with you. Of course I'll work the front counter. What are you planning on doing though?" I ask walking behind the counter and taking a seat on the stool in front of the cash register.
"I'm going to be helping customers that come in." Soda goes over to the door and flips a sign that says "Open".
"So is there anything I need to do besides ring people up." I ask setting down my bottle of water.
"Keep the popcorn machine running, it's a big hit around here. Just make sure no one steals anything while they're in here and if you have any questions I'll be either in here or right outside." I smile and nod my head.
