"Yes, yes I know Kelly. I'm going to be there in a few minutes. I'm walking in now." I hang up the phone and pull the door of the school open. I'm met by tons of student crowding the entrance and I get a whiff of too much clone. I scrunch my nose and walk down the hall, pushing my backpack higher on my shoulder. I turn the corner and a girl with brown hair and blue eyes squeals and runs up to me hugging me.
"Hey," I say flinching as she wraps both arms around me. She jumps up and down, "How was your trip."
"Oh, California is so warm. And go to the beach, tons of hotties." I laugh.
"Now you have to take me next time," I beg. She laughs.
"Um, of course. I don't trust you with all the boys here." I roll my eyes.
"Yea, where everyone knows me since kindergarten and would never date me." She rolls her eyes.
"Uh huh, you're so pretty, you need a guy in your life." I laugh.
"Please, why do I need a guy. They're so needy, always asking for sandwiches." She laughs at our inside joke and we walk together to our first period along with everyone else scrambling. School's good, I have top grades so it's easy, I can read during most of my classes and the teachers don't care. Kelly always teases me about living in books, she has no idea. At lunch, we meet up with Nic and eat our lunches together. I plop down at the lunch table with my lunch that I brought from home and open my egg salad. I gag at the smell of it, it's way to warm now.
"What's up?" Nic asks and I quickly hide it in my lap.
"Oh, nothing." I place both hands on the lid.
"Hey Nic, what did you get on the Russian test?" He shrugs. I reach inside myself, feeling for the cold and find it I force it into my hands and I feel my lid on my salad get cold.
"Does that mean you failed it like every test." He smiles.
"You know me so well." He says taking a fry from her plate. She slaps his hand but he puts it in his mouth anyways and I put my cold salad back on the table and open it.
"Wow that's really cold, how do you get it to stay that cold?" I freeze up.
"Uh, ice pack," I answer, digging into it, making it so I can't answer any more questions. She nods.
"Cali over here got a perfect score, like always." I swallow down my salad.
"That's because I know Russian." She glares at me and I stick my tongue out at her. They bicker back and forth about him trying to study while I eat my salad, I look around the cafeteria and I turn, feeling eyes on me. I meet the same brown eyes as I did last night. I glare at him and he glares back, and I turn back around. Suddenly both of them stopped talking.
"What was that?" She asked. I shrug.
"We've had a past. I hate him."
"What did he do to earn the hate of the nice girl." My eyes flash darkly thinking of the memory.
"He beat my brother up," I reply, anger rising in my voice.
"Wow, I'm guessing he lost." I glare at Nic.
"Yes, he came home crying. He had many cuts, and I mean deep cuts. He was trying to kill him with a knife." I grip my fork and I feel it grow icy cold under my hand and I quickly put it under the table and drop kick it away from me. I take a deep breath and put on a smile.
"You can't be serious." I nod.
"Nothing could have given him such deep cuts other than a knife," I say biting my lip.

I open my locker and grab all my homework assignments and stuff them in my backpack before shutting it. I stand up and my phone in my back pocket buzzes. I look at it, a text from Arther, "Can you walk home? I have some stuff to do." I roll my eyes, yes "stuff" beat he's with Lucy. I sigh and walk out of school and down the road toward. I stand at an intersection wondering if I should take a long way or the short way home. I shrug, I have nothing to do tonight besides a paper and I turn down the long road home, but that also means going through the sketchy part of town. I cross the street and enjoy the cool breeze, it's not quite as windy as yesterday, which is a bummer. But it is really cold, definitely colder than yesterday. I hear the sound of a car behind me and I turn around to see a black car on the side of the road, with a bunch of guys in the front watching me."Hey, sweetheart." They call me. I roll my eyes and start to walk faster. But they aren't done and drive up next to me, "Hey do ya wanna take a ride?" I ignore them and starting to feel uncomfortable and unsafe my hands start to shake. I feel the cold start to build up and I fight to keep it back.
"Come on baby. It'll be a good time." I put my chin high and walk faster, "Alright, if you want to do it the hard way." I hear the door open I sprint off. Then the car speeds after me. I see a spot between two stores and turn sharply down it. I hear the car stop and men hop out and run after me. I'm not very fast and they catch up to me before I can reach the other side. They surround me and grin. I put up my hands.
"Please, I don't have anything to give you."
"Oh, but we just want to have some fun." They rub their hands together. They come closer. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to push the cold away, but I can't stop it especially when I'm scared. The first one roughly grabs my shoulder and I let the cold cover him in a thick sheet of ice. I think the other ones would run away screaming, they just get mad. I run down the alley and into the street the black car sees me and races after me. I scream when I run so close it almost hits me and I put my hands out. Ice freezes it in its spot and more men get out. I feel light headed from the all the stress and my vision spots. Then a guy comes up behind one and hits him over the head, knocking him out. They turn suddenly and he starts attacking them all at one time. And they all start to fall, and when he's finished I've lost all my strength and fall backward. But he catches me and I lock eyes will the brown haired boy that I hate so much. Then will one final pound in my head my vision blacks.
