Her birthday seemed to pop up all too quickly and once more, she strayed away from celebrating it. It was just another day to her, regardless of the fact that she turned a year older. Scarlett did however spend it doing things that she loved to do.
It was between exploring a forest or park that she had yet to stumble across in the city or explore the very streets of France. She had gone for the latter.Nature was her forte, she felt like nothing could go wrong in the hands of Mother Nature and all worries and stress seemed to slip away as she climbed a tree or swam in the nearest lake. She didn't understand why she didn't just run away and escape it all, opting to become some crazy woman who is one with the Earth. Now that she thinks about it...it sounds a bit far fetched and she'd have to be completely bonkers to do so.
Scarlett let out a content sigh, this was utter peace. Just sat up somewhere high in the branches of a tree, swinging her legs back and forth with the sun rays kissing her pale skin and a light breeze billowing along. Then again...why wouldn't she want to leave everything behind her and escape go the wilderness? Clearly it was the only thing that accepted her for her.
She wouldn't be crazy to do so, would she? No, no, course not!She jumped down from the tree, transitioning into a roll to break her fall before standing to her feet with a huff. She brushed out the stray leaf that has caught in her thick red locks before venturing further into the forest. That was where she found the stream of water filled with gorgeous koi carp fish of different shades of orange, white, yellow, red and black. She tip toed across the stepping stones, being careful not to slip before she bent down and took a stick to play around with the fish who crowded around the stick due to thinking it was food.
A fond smile filled her face, green eyes lighting up with joy and her red hair falling to her front as she leaned over the water. She was transfixed on the colourful fishes, not anticipating for one of them to splash upwards and catch her of guard. Scarlett found herself falling backwards, landing in the water on her butt with a stunned expression on her face before she burst out laughing at herself.
"Clever Scarlett, real clever" she mused, getting back onto her feet and releasing she would now have to head back to the orphanage to change out of her wet clothing.
"Bye, bye fishies" she giggled, exiting the forest and emerging onto the streets of the city once more. She quickly came upon the orphanage building, stepping back in a rush as a group of children came rushing out, playing and laughing. Scarlett just looked over them, not emotion on her face as she entered the building and only spare a glance Madam Trish who was in a particularly foul mood.
"Vous êtes humide, enfant stupide! Montez dans votre chambre et restez là. Pas de nourriture pour vous ce soir! (You're sipping wet, stupid child! Go up to your room and stay there. No good for you tonight!)" Madam Trish sneered and Scarlett didn't even attempt to put up a fight.
The red head just feebly nodded her head, spinning on her heel and trudging up the stairs and lightly shutting her door, even though she wanted to slam it, so as to not draw even more attention to herself and get in more trouble.
She begrudgingly peeled of her wet clothing and slipped of her ruddy trainers, pulling on fresh clothes and dry shoes before towel drying her hair and dragging a comb through it. She found herself flopping down onto her bed, something she found that she had done a lot over the past month of being on summer break.
Sleep was seeming to consume her but then something slipped under the crack of her door. A marble. It must have been one of the other kids because she could hear muttering outside of her room.
"Ll suffit de frapper et de le demander à nouveau! (Just knock and ask for it back!)" One of them seemed to hiss.
Scarlett slowly stepped from her bed, tip toeing over to the marble and picking it up gently as she caught the reply of the little girl.
"Non, elle est bizarre et un freak! (No, she's weird and a freak!)"
Scarlett grasped the glass marble tightly in her hand, scrunching her eyes shut and sighing before opening the door to her room and finding three kids outside. Two girls who looked to be he same age as her and a young boy. They each looked to her with frightful eyes, moving stiffly to turn and look at her. They expected her to snap and probably 'voodoo' curse them or something. However, all Scarlett did was hand the young boy the marble before turning on her heel and shutting the door as their retreating footsteps echoed throughout the hall.
She flopped back onto her bed, pulling the covers over her and letting out a rather large sigh.
"Some birthday this turned out to be" she inwardly mused, drowsiness clinging to her like a koala as she slipped into a nightmare filled sleep.
