JANE'S POV
When I heard CP called Max's name I followed his line of sight but froze when I saw who's standing behind Max. I gave up hope to ever see him again in flesh but can't wish to die soon for I have a son.
I don't know if my eyes were just playing tricks on me but he's here. He hasn't changed a bit except for the facial hairs. CP walked towards them then stopped a few feet from them when Grey knelt before my son I moved towards them.
"Grey?" I asked which made my son looked at me but I was looking at his dad instead "yes, mom?" yet he still answered for I call him Grey too at times "what happened mom? Did this man hurt you? What did he do?" he asked non-stop then glared at Grey "Sir, what did you do to my mom? Are you or are you not the reason she's crying?" now he's placed his hands in his waist "can anyone answer me please? As a birthday present?" he pleaded
"CP honey, this man standing in front of you is your father." I said placing my hands in my son's shoulders while looking straight into his father's eyes, who's crying as well. "mom you told me not to lie and yet here you are lying to me." I didn't know how to answer my son though I didn't lie at all. It's just too complicated he doesn't know the details yet how his dad dies for he's still too young.
"CP your mom's not lying." Max told CP and I gave him a nod thanking him "uh not you too uncle." CP's getting agitated
Grey introduced himself to CP but when he called CP, SON our son cut him off by telling him "that's Christian Paul for you sir." I cant help but smile for this is sort of a Déjà vu
He then corrected himself and started "Christian Paul Contreras Grey Jr.." he paused "nobody's lying to you. My name is Christian Paul Grey and I am your father." He slowly and cautiously said then smiled but his smile faltered when he heard what CP told him
"then prove it." I know Grey's surprised at our son's replied but masked it perfectly "how?" our son then stood like he's about to interrogate a suspect and trying his best to look intimidating "what's my mom's call sign?" okay here we go
I know CP will ask questions concerning our military history and some personal info. So he asked about the call signs and all, I really wasn't surprised at all.
"you know the basics but you're not off the hook yet. Just like I said those are the basics." I smiled when I heard this – he's really a son of a soldier but then he asked a personal well more of an intimate matters
"where and what's my mom's tattoo?"
"at the back, left shoulder blade to be exact. The airborne's logo, a parachute with dagger over it."
"when and where was I made?" It took my everything not to curse at the question and I swear im now redder than red
"as for the when, during our RnR before we went on a road trip and for the where, that would be your mom's bedroom." Grey answered smirking
"i will never ask how for that's not for me to hear.." oh thank goodness he stopped then Max urged him to continue "but I want you to, go ahead now is the chance." Grey threw a punch at his thigh while I whacked the back of his head "ouch, the abusive Greys are back." Which made my team chuckle who's just a few feet from us now
When CP asked for my wedding vow, Grey's face flushed. Oh you better answer this correctly Captain Grey or else you'll be going back to where you came from against your will.
When CP gave him an ultimatum then threatened him afterwards I was like TAKE THAT but then Grey closed his eyes and recited my vow to him and his to me as if reliving that day. My heart fluttered.
My son knows our wedding vows for our love story's his favorite bed time story. i can tell CP's already convinced the way his muscles and jaw relaxed he then introduced himself the way Grey introduced himself. Grey was amazed for he smiled and took his son's hand shook it and pulled him into a hug. He said something to CP that made him cry still in his Dad's arms. When they stood, Grey carrying CP I hugged them and Max being himself and my team being themselves started clapping so the rest of the guests.
My team welcomed Grey like a brother.
Over dinner Grey thanked them and my team's response moved me. I so love these men for taking care of us.
CP uttered the question we have been dying to ask.
When Grey started recalling the past his eyes seemed distant and hurt, fear, despair and grief were visible. I've been through hell but as my husband recalls everything, what I've been through doesn't come close to what he's been through for he's gone through all those ALONE.
Bed time and CP's knocking, I let him in.
He saw his dad laying on the right far end of the bed, "uhm mom, I uh can I still sleep here?" he asked but Grey answered for me "I should be the one asking that question, son." He said patting the space next to him. CP complied and sat beside facing him.
"will it be fine if I share the bed with you and your mom?" Grey asked CP cautiously, still gauging my son's emotions.
"I don't mind at all. In fact I want to spend time with you while you're still here." CP replied but we know there's more than that statement as Grey glanced at me worriedly.
I plopped behind CP and he just glanced at me.
"what are you thinking son?" Grey asked as he placed a hand over our son's knee "just this and that" was all CP gave him. Grey's gazed averted to me seeking for help.
"Nak (short for ANAK, Filipino for Child) we'd love to hear what you think about this." Motioning for the 3 of us, having Grey with us now.
CP moved and he's now facing both Grey and I as he tried to come up with words
"for starters, I'm still confused I guess..." his voice faltered as he lower his gaze and started playing with the hem of his shirt – what he usually do when nervous.
"Nak, we know you have tons of questions that's why your father and I are urging you to talk so we can address your questions properly and ease your confusion." I told him. I hate seeing my son like this.
The last time I saw him like this was when he' had enough of bullying from school, he went home face puckered and grumpy but then started fidgeting and constantly biting his lower lip as he play with the hem of his shirt.
I had to call him 3 times to get his attention, he stopped a feet from me and asked me if he's an abandoned child. I had to explain what happened to his dad and then when he seem to understand I asked why in the world he thinks that he's an abandoned child., that's when I found out that he's been bullied. I didn't went to the school, I remind him to just do what he does to them – keep ignoring them but never let anyone lay a hand on him. Thankfully no one dared to hit him or else, I swear I'll make them regret it.
I was pulled out of my revere when Grey spoke "I am deeply sorry to put in this situation, son. But if I could turn back time I'll still have it the way it did for if it wasn't me that got hit, it would have been your mom and I could've lost you both." Tears brimming his eyes as he held our son's chin to meet his gaze.
"dad please don't cry, you've suffered long enough and I don't want to cause you or mom any pain." What did I do to deserve this family? Grey's tears fell like rain as he engulfed our son into a hug.
CP let his father cry in his shoulder and I just sat beside them admiring the fact that my son's just a 5 year old kid yet can comprehend this complicated situation that he's family is.
