Every morning I woke, fed the cats and walked to Mother's shop. She had a small pet store to herself and today and every other day, her one worker was out on vacation. So she needed me. It's that simple. But I needed to tell her about Blaze and what Colby did to her and how I punched him. As I arrived at her shop I wondered how I would get it out to her.

I stood and thought for about ten minutes. I breathed hard and opened the door. I snuck down an aisle, and kept as quite as a mouse. But Mother knew I was here. All because of that dumb bell on the door. "April, come out. I need to talk with you."

"Yes? I actually need to tell you something as wel-" I only got so far when I stopped dead in my tracks. Colby. Right in front of the counter was Colby. He looked so innocent and like he was in pain. But when Mother looked away from him, he smirked at me. It was because of him and his stupid horse Dime.

I nodded at him as I spoke, "What's he doing here?" My mom didn't look angry for once but just frowned. "Colby said you were on his property Saturday. He said he asked nicely for you to leave but you refused and decided to race over whether you would stay or not. He told me you lost the race and got so mad you punched him in the nose. Is this true, April?"

I stared blankly at her. Then my gaze fell on Colby, his eyes turned to black slits and he smiled darkly at me. If I said no, Mother would think I'm lying and Colby would tell his parents. Once Colby told his parents they would probably file a complaint to the sheriff for me trespassing on their land.

If I said yes Colby would be satisfied and keep his mouth shut, I least I hope... I gazed at my sneakers trying to think it over. "I'm sorry Mother, yes what Colby says is true," my voice was so soft I didn't even hear myself. Mother nodded. I gazed at Colby, his expression was so confused that I said yes. And then Mother pointed me to the door and I left. Simple as that.
