The Long Good Bye

People keep asking Why, oh Why
The long good-bye?
But they never see the gossamer tears
In memories of the long lost years

Love that turned to hate
Like an aphrodisiac you just ate.
Malice sculptured in ice
Cold to the touch;
A burning brush.
Despair:
A fragrance in the air.

You! No longer held dear.

Reaching for my drink of  ice cold regret
I take one sip at a time.
The liquid water brings it all back to mind.

Sweet as honey. Intoxicating as wine
I savour the moments lost in time.

A gossamer dreaming
That the scheming
And petty demeaning
Could be made right after the fight?

Taking another long drink of regret;
I savour the bitter sweet
Taste that hard to forget.
I sweat but not from it's heat.
History was not to repeat.

Oh Why, oh Why
The long good-bye?
It takes time
To unwind the vine
Knot by knot
Dot by dot

As the Dream in my head
Is put to bed.

The fools gold
Turned back to the blacken coal
No warmth to hold.

Oh Why, oh Why
The long good-bye?
Gone Gone are the misty eyes
From when we use to cry.
Gone Gone are the unravelling of the lies.
From when we use to try.

No more wishing wells
Nor wedding bells.
No more Love that binds

Bye Bye
The Songbird sings
Broken are the wings
Broken are the rings.

That is why oh why
The long goodbye.
