Max's P.O.V.

Nathan and i just got home from dinner. i flop down on my bed and go over the Jessie script. i wonder how many other girls are auditioning? will they like me? what if i don't look the part? oh my god.

i practice my lines. doesn't feel right. "Nathaaaaan!" i yell. i hear his footsteps banging up the stairs. he bursts into my room, his hair ruffled up and his green eyes wide. "what's wrong?" he asks, looking around the room for a threat.

"could you run lines with me?" i ask, sitting cross-legged on the floor and patting the space beside me. he lets out a deep breath. "okay."

i ran lines with Nathan for about an hour trying out the different scenes. it was a bit strange since i was giving it everything i had and Nathan was reading in this monotonous robot voice. oh well. my brother is a business manager, not an actor.

after a while Nathan yawns. "i'm pooped." he says. i laugh. "ha!" i say jabbing his rib. "you said poop!" i then cackle like a crazy hyena. huh. i guess fatigue  get to your head sometimes.

he puts me in a headlock and tickles my sides. "it means tired, dweeb!" he yells as i gasp for air from laughing. "stop! please stop it!" i beg, tears in my eyes. he finally lets go and i collapse onto the rug like a limp noodle.

he kisses my forehead goodnight and heads over to his room. i just lay on my bedroom floor thinking about everything. i didn't even feel myself drift off...

----------

i get shot awake by a loud blast of Poison's 'She's Me Cherry Pie' from my phone right beside my ear. i groan and answer the call.

"Yep?" i answer.

"morning." i hear Cameron's voice on the other end. "wanna so something today?" i rub the sleep from my eyes and struggle to sit up. the night of sleeping on the floor pretty much killed my back. "Cam, would it kill you not to do something for just one day?" he sighs. "why? what do you want to do?"

------

now i'm sitting with Cameron on the trampoline in their backyard. "isn't it kind of cheating that you're helping me rehearse since you're, like, on the show?" Cam just waves me off. "psssh. naw. i'm just your neighbor right now being all neighborly and helping you out." i smile. "okay thanks."

running lines with Cameron was SOOO much better than rehearsing with Nathan. it also made it easier since the way he said his line was sort of a cue for me how to say my line... or something like that.

after leaving the Boyces' place, i felt a little better about the audition. i can do this. i. can. do this.

-------------

oh dear god, I CANNOT DO THIS. gaahhh it's today. oh no, oh no, oh no. Casey is going to be here in half an hour and i am still in my freaking pyjamas.

i shower quickly and put on a thin-strapped dandelion yellow sundress with a tiny pink floral pattern  and a denim cut-off vest.

i rush downstairs and there is a bowl of cereal and the milk carton waiting for me on the counter. i sit across from Nathan who is sipping his coffe and reading the paper. "you ready?" he asks me. i take a bite of cereal. "duhmba habba chus?" he frowns. i gulp down the mouthful. "do i have a choice?" i ask again.

i finish off the last of my cereal just as we hear a car horn outside. "that's Casey." says Nathan. i rinse my bowl i. the sink and kiss his cheek. i grab my phone, wallet, and folder containing all my stuff and head out.

i get into Casey's car. she smiles at me. "ready?" she asks. ugh why is everybody asking me that? i just nod and smile as i put on my seatbelt.

here we go.
