"Remind me again why you're having a dinner party on the night of my prom?" I asked my mother as she curled the last strands of my hair and clips it up. I tried to take a peek in the mirror, but she blocked my vision, standing in front of the mirror with her swelled belly. It was hard for her to maneuver, and stand up for too long, it was so big,
"Not yet, Hope! It has to be perfect first... And why am I having a dinner party tonight? Because my baby is growing up and I need something to take my mind off of it!" She told me, coating me in hairspray and making me cough.
"Sorry sweetie..." She said. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. "Oh shoot, they're here already..." She ran downstairs, as best as she could, seeing that she was basically waddling. She left the curling iron on it's side, still plugged in.
"Mom! Come back! You have to finish putting the hair spray in!" I yelled downstairs to her, praying that the next set of curls wouldn't come undone. When she didn't answer, I went to go find her. Eli stood in front of the door, talking to my mom and dad. His hair had been trimmed since I had seen him last.
It had been... weeks, thanks to that house arrest. It was a wonder the school was even letting us go to the dance, being out for this long, and in this much trouble, but I guess they didn't want us missing it. Or maybe, somehow, for some reason, even though they were the ones that originally said I couldn't go, my parents fought with the school to let us go.
Eli looked up at me from the bottom of the stairs, smiling that handsome smile of his, and looking amazing in his tux. I stared at him, stunned at how well he cleaned up.
"Hey," I said, smiling at him. I stood at the top of the staircase still. He looked up at me, then down, and back up at me. His mouth dropped open. I ran down the stairs, and ended up in his arms.
"Hope, you look... gorgeous," he said. I beamed.
"Thanks. You look so handsome, Eli," I responded. He smiled.
"Yeah, I clean up pretty nicely when I try, don't I?" He joked. I nodded. He really, really did. God, I was in love. I never wanted to leave his arms. He was still holding me by the waist as we looked at each other. I put a hand in my hair, she curls hadn't come out yet.
"Don't play with it, Hope!" My mom exclaimed, moving my hand away. She smiled at me once my hand was down.
"You look so beautiful, honey. Ponyboy, go get the camera." She ordered him. Just then, the doorbell rang, and in walked Uncle Soda, Emily, and Faith, wearing a floor length soft pink dress, flowers in her curled blonde hair, clipped to look like a crown atop her beautiful head. She looked absolutely amazing. I gasped and ran when I saw her, almost knocking her over her in her high heels. Shyly, Alex walked in behind her. She wore a bright yellow dress. I had never seen her look so good, and I was stunned. Her choppy hair was fixed to look absolutely beautiful, bouncing, with her highlights brighter than ever.
"You look amazing!" I exclaimed.
"I look like a daffodil," she responded. Faith pulled her in, looking mildly upset, and I knew it was more than just because she had picked the dress.
"Lies. You look beautiful." I knew she wanted to kiss her by the way she looked into her eyes, but she didn't do it, and she left her words at that. The two had became good friends in the weeks I was gone. My uncle didn't punish Faith and Cherry Valance didn't care enough to do so with Alex. The two weren't officially dating, but Eli and I knew without them having to tell us that there was something going on. The most beautiful girl in our school hadn't told us that there was finally someone to have a chance with her, but we knew that the only one she would ever have eyes for is Alex.
They went to prom as 'friends', but maybe they only said that to keep it from anyone at school. They didn't hold hands at the dance, they didn't kiss. They just looked at each other, the passion evident in their eyes. They talked to us, they danced, they had fun together. It was the best night of all of our lives.
After prom, Eli and I hung out with the two of the more and more. Alex was a bit embarrassed to begin with when they started going out, worried about what everyone would think, but I had never seen my cousin happier. Faith would hold her hand or kiss her and just be all around sweet. It took a while, but Alex began to swallow her doubt and become more and more at ease around her girlfriend. A lot of the time in the beginning they acted as just as close friends to make sure thy didn't get looks, but no one really cared, if they did know. The two of them were happy, they were a good couple, and that's what mattered.Their first kiss was at a party, much like mine and Eli's. They held hands as they walked into the room, so in love they didn't have a chance to worry about a thing. That's how everyone found out. No one minded, a few people cheered. The room was all smiles. Faith's senior year approached quickly, as mine and Eli's junior, and Alex's sophomore. Eventually, I got my license back. It took a long time. By the summer I had more than cleaned up my act, and paid my ticket back three times over. I started working at Two-Bit and Marcia's restaurant, as a waitress, to begin saving for a car. Faith got her privileges back, and the rest was history. I was no longer angry, and I no longer saw myself as the daughter of a delinquent. Although I still went with Eli to the graves every now and then, but they didn't seem so important anymore. They were apart of our history, but they weren't my future. Maybe Dallas Winston was just an old friend, because eventually I learned to realize that Ponyboy Curtis is my father, and I am not the Delinquent's Daughter...
A/N: Welp. That's all, folks. The note in my journal where this was written out says I finished it on June 27th... Happy Halloween.
Anyways... thoughts? I love you guys. Thank you all so much for reading and sticking with me when I don't update for months and months. I don't deserve all of you amazing loves. I hope you all enjoyed <3
