Giving Back

I headed back a bit earlier than I thought I would. There was a fund raiser in Charming and this is going to be the first year I get to go. Previous years I was scared too, I didn't want Chibs to see me but he's gone for now and the club knows about me so I might as well check it out. Besides they have snow cones.

I love snow cones.

I took a taxi into town and to Juice's house, from there I started my bike and rode down to see if I could be of any help.

I parked my bike outside of where the fun raiser took place. The middle school's field, pretty decent sized after all, and when I heard Gemma ran this whole thing I thought I'd help out kinda as a thank you for her keeping quiet when she did.

"Hey you come to help?" Gemma asked as we met eye contact. I only nodded. "Wouldn't recommend a jacket, it'll get hot out here." I looked at her for a moment before I slipped the jacket off leaving myself in my tan tank top. It was more of an undershirt but I guess it'd have to do for now.

"Thanks, I'll help on one condition." I looked at her for a moment and before she could ask I raised my hand slightly. "I get to go get a snow cone when the booth opens." As soon as I said it a short laugh came from her lips which made me smile. That had been my goal, to see her smile.

Grabbing a box I started to set up a booth following Gemma's instructions but then I sighed closing my eyes. "What's wrong? Sighing doesn't sound too good." Gemma spoke looking over at me but I met eyes with her then looked down.

"Why are you nice to me?" I asked and she looked taken back. "Clay doesn't believe me, sent Tig to watch me. Why do you believe me and why are you nice to me." I couldn't meet eyes with her as I looked away once more and so Gemma sighed walking over to me, she took the box away.

"Listen." Gemma met eyes with me and so I paid full attention to her, something I didn't do often since I was always watching, looking, and cautious of everyone around me. "I miss my son, and because of that I know how Chibs feels. I want to believe you are his daughter because then he doesn't have to feel that pain anymore. No one deserves that pain." Gemma then grabbed my face. "And you know better than to lie to me, I can see it in your eyes."

I moved my face away and only nodded. "You are right. After being here for 8 years I learned quickly not to mess with you, especially from anyone who saw you in town." I paused pulling out my phone. "People are scared of the club, and of you."

Gemma smiled at me. "Well maybe they should be." She walked away from me with a smile, leaving me to my thoughts.

When the phone screen lit up I couldn't help but smile. Hey Sweetheart, everything going good in Charming? Are you helping Gemma set up for the fundraiser? I thought about my response but before I could answer a box fell behind me and I quickly whirled around. "Sorry." It was a man I had never seen before, never in Charming. "Didn't mean to startle you." I didn't like the vibe he was giving off, but it might just be because of how cautious I am of everything. "Just came to see how the other booths were doing, I've never been to this fundraiser." He smiled at me, and all it did was creep me out.

"Okay... well unless you are working the booth you aren't supposed to be back here." I slowly stuck my phone in my back pocket. "So I'd appreciate if you got out." I was trying my best to be nice, but it wasn't easy.

He looked around. "Oh, sorry. Not used to being told what to do." The man just walked out and walked over towards PD's booth. I watched him go for a moment, but then my phone went off again.

You good? You looked and didn't respond. I rolled my eyes with a small smile.

I'm fine, sorry someone came over to the booth while I was setting up. You must be bored if you are just watching our texts. I quickly sent it before I finished helping Gemma set up. She said she was heading to the club for a bit so I decided to stay back and just watch the booths, seeing if anyone needed help in the process.
