She watched with horror as she saw Featherpaw leap straight at the leader with a screech.
Blaze let out a gasp. "How did you know?" She asked before she flung herself into battle. Fear sparkled stronger as she thought of Blaze. She's has no training! Neither have I!
She saw warriors scramble out of their dens with startled expressions.
Mulberrylight went up to her. "Go to the gathering and warn the clan!" He ordered a moment before he slashed alongside his clan mates.
"Take care of Blaze!" She called to Featherpaw.
She was out of camp in a flash. Her pelt prickled as she saw a line of warriors waiting to get inside the camp. One warrior was pacing around, growling.
She was about to break from the crowd when a paw hit her back hard. She let out a yelp of pain as claws scored down her body.
She wriggled around, trying to see her attacker. Before she could do anything, she heard a female voice. "Let's shred them!" And she howled with pain as teeth dug into her scruff.
BlackKit heard an angry roar and she saw Mulberrylight race towards her with a furious look.
The weight on her disappeared as Mulberrylight tackled the cat off her.
"Go!" Mulberrylight growled, flinging himself at her attacker.
She scrambled to her paws, exhausted, but she made herself run as if a pack of badgers were chasing her.
She saw the lake ripple in the moonlight as she raced past, onto the log and in the island.
She heard the suspicious mews of cats ahead and she followed the noise.
She saw the clans were tensed, staring where Darkfeather should have been. The cats around her jumped in fright when she burst out of the underbrush, panting and covered in blood.
She saw Sunfeather look down and jump to her paws with her fur bristling.
Before anyone could ask, she shouted across the clearing "Cavern-clan is attacking our camp!".
All cats jumped to their paws, shock rippling through the crowd.
"What?!" She heard her mother shriek, running through the crowd and tackling BlackKit, hissing at any cat who came near.
She felt rough licks from her mother as Sunfeather was shouting orders.
"But the truce!" The Fresh-water clan leader snarled.
The gathering went up in yowls as they called Cavern-clan Featherclan rogues.
Warriors rushed past her and her mother as they went to defend their camp.
"Mountain clan will join the fight!" Pinefeather said, gathering their clan. "No cat should break the truce!" He added.
She felt more warriors rush past snarling. Her mother had cleaned the dried blood, and now was carrying her across the log back to the camp.
As soon as they got there, screeches could be heard and the camp was full of the odor of Cavern-clan.
Scarlet clan cats yowled and crashed into their opponents.
Her mother raced to the nursery and dropped her in the nest.
"Stay here." Her mother ordered.
"But what about Blaze and Berrykit!" She wailed, not wanting her friends to be hurt.
Dawnpelt looked back. "I'll find them." She promised before whisking away into battle.
Mountain clan cats filed in and blocked the entrance and mercilessly threw blows at any Cavern clan cat, running away or not.
It seemed like moons before Lavaclaw appeared and dropped Blaze beside her and then went back out again.
Blaze was covered in blood and barely breathing.
"No!" Blackkit shouted, making the mountain clan cats jump and look back.
A white mountain clan cat looked back with sympathy and went outside.
Then Maplepatch appeared with the white she-cat behind her.
She looked up gratefully at the white cat. "Thank you." She whispered.
The she-cat curled her tail around Blackkit. "Don't worry, we will protect you."
She buried her face into her warm fur for a second. "What's your name?"
The she cat shot a glance at the other mountain clan warriors and whispered in her ear "I'm Crestfur."
"Cool! I'm Blackkit!"
Crestfur was about to reply when there was a screech of defeat. "Retreat! We can't fight Scarlet clan, Mountain clan and Fresh water clan!" Said Darkfeather.
She tilted her head. When did fresh water clan join the battle?
"I gotta go." Crestfur said, padding off with the others.
The clearing seemed to empty and silence stretched across like the lake. A wail of grief broke the silence, making her jump.
"My baby! My.. MY Berrykit!"
Berrykit!
