After the medicine cat had checked her wounds, she had opened one again, she went to the leaders den, excitement bubbling through her pelt.
"Sunfeather? Can I come in?" She called, her eyes swiping a glare at Longscar as he passed by.
"Yes," she heard the leaders mew- she sounded upset, or angry.
Ha. I'm not surprised Longscar made her angry. I can't see why upset, though.
She thought as she pushed into the den, seeing Sunfeather curled in her nest and cleaning her tail.
The she cat looked up. "I'm guessing you want to go to the gathering?" Sunfeather's eye were dull with exhaustion from the three patrols she joined and led earlier.
"Yeah." Blackpaw nodded, her amber eyes trying to reach into Sunfeather's, but now matter how hard she stared, the leaders eyes wiped any anger out.
"You can't; you need to stay here because I don't want you to open your wound up - again." She said sternly, her gaze holding Blackpaw's in an iron grip.
"But-"
But Sunfeather had already turned away, flicking her tail to dismiss her. She let out a huff and turned, going to Blazepaw and Featherpaw.
"Hey." She said as she sat down next to Blazepaw.
There was no answer as the two were in deep conversation. She twitched her ears with resentment, turning away to go visit Mulberrylight.
Before she took another step, Sunfeather leapt onto the rock and called the cats who were going to go to the gathering.
She flexed her claws as she heard Blazepaw and Featherpaw were going. She turned back to say goodbye to them, but they had already joined the group of cats, still talking.
She hissed and walked stiffly to the apprentices den, which was empty. She heard a rustle and looked up, seeing Featherpaw.
She glared at him as he spoke. "Aren't you going?".
She twitched her tail. "No." she growled, flattening her ears to tell him she wanted to be alone to wreck havoc on the leaves around her.
But he stayed. "I can stay here if you like. I think Blazepaw will be okay on her own."
She narrowed her eyes. "Go."
He blinked at her, but turned and went back to Blazepaw, talking in hushed whispers. She saw Blazepaw glance at her and whisper something, and started towards Blackpaw.
But the cats had started leaving and Blazepaw stopped, glancing at her and back to Featherpaw, whispering.
She raked the leaves on the bush above her as they left, growling. She thought of all the things they could have said about her. Featherpaw was taking her best friend.
She pushed out of her den, creeping out of the camp and running through the woods.
"Rattlesnake?" She called softly. She scented the cats that were leaving and she steered the other direction, toward the twoleg place.
She stopped in front of something that looked like stripped trees from their bark, but thin and jagged at the top. She was pretty sure this was the boundary to the kittypets, so she turned away.
But something hit her and she fell to her paws, surprised. She felt a weight on her and she growled and leapt up, hearing a thump as the cat on her back fell to the ground.
She immediately jumped on the tom, her claws holding down his forearms.
She looked into his amber gaze and something seemed to calm her.
"You're brave for a kitty pet!" She said, seeing a blue strip of twoleg stuff around his neck with a bell on it.
"Well, stay away from my territory!" The tom snapped, struggling under her as she pinned him easily.
She knew toms were usually older to complain about territory, but when she looked at this black and white tom he seemed young, maybe close to her age or older.
"Your territory?" She scoffed, letting him up, knowing he wouldn't be a threat.
The tom stayed silent as he groomed himself, occasionally shooting glances at her with curious eyes.
"What's your name?" She said, curious as well. He was not a bad fighter for a house cat, but he definitely needed to work on his attacks.
"Why should I tell you?" The toms tone wasn't unkind, but not friendly either. Maybe defensive?
"Because I'm telling you mine. I'm Blackpaw." She blinked at him, his swirling white patterns doing the opposite of clashing with his black pelt.
He looked at her for a moment before saying, "I'm Fang."
She twitched her tail, thinking. She knew kittypet names were weird, but naming a cat after something they used was odder than she expected.

She and Fang had spent a while talking about Kittypets and twolegs, and she was about to reply to his question when she heard rustling and the scent of Scarlet Clan hit her nose.
"Go! My clan is coming!" She whispered, pushing Fang up his 'fence' to boost him.
The weight lifted off her back and she heard scrabbling as he climbed up and jumped off.
The cats from the gathering appeared, instantly smelling the kittypet scent on her.
"Why do you spell like a kittypet?" Lynxtail demanded, towering over her.
"I-I was just fighting off one because they were on my-our territory." She stammered, thinking fast.
The she cat sniffed, turning away and Blackpaw slowly followed, not wanting to talk to her friends.
"The gathering was great!" Blazepaw bounced up beside her as she growled under her breath.
"That's great." She said, her voice cold as she wiped off any emotions that might show.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Blazepaw lean over to Featherpaw and whisper, "What's up with her? Someone stuck mousebile up her nose!"
She twitched her tail angrily but kept walking, hoping to get to camp quickly so she could see Rattlesnake.
Then she heard Featherpaw whisper back, "I don't know. She's always cranky. Like an old badger."
She let out a hiss and lunged at Featherpaw, sweeping him off his paws and knocking him to the ground, her temper rising.
"Hey!" She heard a familiar voice say, hearing heavy pawsteps.
"No one calls me an old badger!" She yowled, biting on his tail.
Featherpaw screeched and she felt claws on her back, pulling her away. She whirled around, expecting Blazepaw to attack her.
But she saw Mulberrylight with sadness in his eyes and he rested his tail over her shoulders.
She dipped her head, walking along beside him in silence, but fury ebbing beneath her pelt.
She ignored what Mulberrylight had said to her, going to the apprentices den and laying down.
She woke up in the dark forest, and felt claws pressed against her throat and pain shot through her.
"Idiot!"
