'Joey's POV
"So" I said clearing my throat and starting the car, "What was all that in the elevator?" Her face turned a bright red and I couldn't help but smile.
"I've always wanted to kiss someone in an elevator!" she shrugged and looked away so I wouldn't see her flushed face.
"Hmm," I replied, "I don't remember seeing that on your bucket list!"
"I don't need a bucket list on paper, I have little things I want to do locked up into the back of my mind also!" she said, sternly. She noticed the aggression in her voice and let out an unsure chuckle. I put her statement behind me and continued driving to the nearest real estate agent. There we would be able to pick from many Los Angeles houses.
"So do you have any idea on what kind of house you want?" I asked, trying to be prepared and organized. Not something I was good at. She looked up at the sunny sky and thought before answering,
"Something bigger than an apartment, but not too big. We won't be adding anyone to the family, only dogs, so we don't need to much room. All I really want is a big backyard." I nodded, she did have it figured out.
I parked the car in front of a small, old building. There were pictures of different houses and apartments taped all over the windows. Red 'sold' stamps standing out every so often. I saw houses of different shapes, sizes, and colours. I saw houses with forests in the backyard, or large open fields. I started to get an idea of what house I wanted to get for Meghan.
Once we got inside, we instantly started up a conversation with one of the real estate agents. Occasionally asking questions, but mostly answering. After some time, the agent had already cut and circled different houses out of multiple magazines and brochures. These were all handed to us with information booklets and maps. We said our last goodbyes to the kind real estate agent and were headed out the door.
I stood outside the small building, organizing the stack of papers in my hands, with Meghan standing in front of me, waiting patiently. As I was finishing skimming over all the information sheets, I heard a loud, high pitched scream from Meghan. I looked up in panic and saw her kneeling on the ground, her hand clutching her stomach. Oh no!
"Meghan!?" I screamed again, that was all I knew to do. I can't do anything else in a stressful situation like this. Her loud whimpering made me force myself to get my mind together. I needed to keep her calm! I said to myself, crouching down beside her shivering body.
"Shh, Meghan, you're okay." I said as calmly as I could. She kept inhaling sharply through her teeth. I was beginning to become nervous on how long she has been down here for. I tried to look Meghan in the eye but before I could I watched as her body went limp.
My head screamed to do something. I quickly slid my hand under her falling head before it hit the hard, concrete ground. Tears started filling my eyes making me hyperventilate. Meghan has fallen in front of me. I don't know what to do. Of course you know what to do! Think, Joey, Think! The voice in my head yelled at me. Leaning my head on her chest, I checked for a possible heart beat. I picked up Meghan's fragile body bridal style, convincing myself that she had just blacked out from the pain.
I lay her down carefully in the back seat and ran to start the car. Without thinking, I backed out of my parking and starting driving home, faster than I should've. My knuckles turned white on the steering wheel from my nervous grip. Making sure I didn't get into an accident and making sure I could get Meghan home as fast as I could.
Every so often, I would look back to see if her eyes had opened. I prayed to hear her voice vulnerably call my name from the back seat. The constant wanting to know if she's okay made my breathing speed even faster, my heart almost escaping my chest.
